China has entered an aging society,presenting a special national condition of "getting old before getting rich".With the change of ideas,the number of the elderly living in pension institutions is gradually increasing.Different from the "acquaintance society" environment in home-based care model and community care model,the elderly in pension institutions will have interpersonal communication difficulties,peer cognitive bias and low degree of peer support in interpersonal communication and peer relationship,thus affecting the mood,psychology and quality of life of the elderly.Therefore,it is necessary to give play to the role of professional social workers in elderly care services,pay attention to the improvement of peer relationship among the elderly living in pension institutions,and improve the quality of elderly care services.Based on the author’s internship experience in J nursing home in Nanchang,this study takes the self-supporting elderly living in the nursing home as the research object,based on the existing social work department in the nursing home,and the study focuses on the peer relationship of the elderly living in nursing home.This study aims to improve the peer relationship of the elderly and assist the elderly to obtain peer support groups by giving full play to the strength of professional social workers and cooperating with staff in pension institutions.First of all,through literature research method,interview method,participatory observation method and other research methods to investigate the peer relationship status of the elderly living in nursing home,it is found that the elderly have the problems of inadequate behavior in social activities and low peer support.Secondly,based on the theory of human needs,the theory of social support and the theory of group dynamics,the group work method is used to gather the elderly with peer relationship problems to carry out the practice.Finally,through carried out six group service work,the elderly in the peer communication group to better understand themselves,understand others,enhance the interpersonal communication among the elderly living in nursing home,improve the peer relationship among them,and form an interpersonal support network to obtain the elderly peer support group.In this group work service process,the author summarized and reflected on the advantages and disadvantages of each service in time after each service,and considered further intervention measures.During the service period,the old social work carry out various themed activities to purposefully promote interpersonal interaction among the elderly,develop their verbal and non-verbal expression ability,improve the living endowment of interpersonal ability,and lay a foundation for them to improve their peer relationship and obtain peer support groups.At the end of the Group,geriatric social workers through the working process of the records,observation records,self feedback assessment scale and team members,etc.,found that the intervention of the peer communication group has a significant effect on the improvement of the peer relationship of the elderly living in nursing home,the cognition of their interpersonal interaction,the ability to obtain objective peer support and the ability to deal with peer relationship have been significantly improved.This means that it is effective to introduce social workers into pension institutions,and it is feasible to improve the peer relationship among the elderly living in nursing home.At the same time,this study reflects on the research process of social workers’ intervention in the improvement of peer relationship among the elderly living in nursing home.
