| Since 1999,with the continuous improvement of the social and economic level and the vigorous development of education business, our higher education gradually became popular and popular, which further promoted the rapid development of the scale of graduate education in our country. At present unified entrance examination and exemption system are two mainstream approaches to graduate entrance examination in our country.Compared with "fairness" in the unified entrance examination for graduate students, the selection criteria of the recommended exemption system emphasize"efficiency" and the selection of the best.In recent years,no matter in terms of policy orientation or educational scale, the importance of the recommended exemption system has been increasing. However, how about the implementation of the recommended exemption system?Relevant empirical research is still lacking. At present, empirical data with wide coverage and high representation are still needed to evaluate it.Especially in the light of the continuous differentiation of higher education institutions in China today, this issue deserves our attention and exploration. Therefore, this Study uses the data of 2020 academic year of the Panel Study of Chinese University Students(PSCUS)to try to explore the implementation effect of the system through empirical research. To be specific, this study is mainly carried out from the following two questions:first,"Who can get the chance to go to graduate school through the recommended exam-free system?" Is there any difference in family background and undergraduate educational background between the application for exemption and unified enrollment?Furthermore,we will further investigate whether the above differences change when different levels of postgraduate admission opportunities are obtained.2."Does the promotion of exempted students have more development potential than unified enrollment?",that is,at the stage of graduate education, are there any differences in various development indicators(class rank, social activities and communication ability, mental health status, graduation planning, employment confidence)between the unified enrollment and the exempted enrollment? And to see if this difference changes at different levels of graduate school. The study made the following four findings.Firstly, students with superior family background are more likely to get the chance of postgraduate study through the recommended exemption system, mainly due to the high monthly income of family economy.Students with excellent undergraduate education background, such as attending elite universities such as "985" and "211",are more likely to get the chance to go to graduate school through the recommended exemption system.Second,to some extent, family background will indirectly affect students’ chances to apply for postgraduate education through undergraduate education background. With the improvement of graduate education opportunity level, the direct influence of family background will gradually weaken, while the effect of undergraduate education background will become more obvious.Thirdly, the class ranking of exempted students is significantly better than that of the unified enrollment. In terms of graduation planning, compared with the unified enrollment, exempted students are more inclined to continue studying or prepare for work, but there is no significant difference between them in terms of social activities and communication ability, mental health status and employment confidence.Fourthly, the further study found that compared with the unified enrollment, the class ranking advantage of exempt students is still obvious in elite graduate universities, but there is no significant difference in ordinary graduate universities. In addition,it is also found that the difference in graduation planning between the two is still obvious in ordinary graduate universities, but there is no significant difference in elite graduate universities. |
