With the passing of time, the country issued a lot of policy documents on social work, intended to build a strong team of social work professionals, the development of social work industry is also like bamboo shoots, unstoppable. However, the demand for social workers differs greatly from the actual supply, and the turnover rate of social workers is increasing as the demand surges. Therefore, the retention of social work talents is the first prerequisite for the development of the industry.Current research shows that psychological factors, work support, organizational commitment, individual and other factors can affect the turnover of social workers,so it is of great significance to study the influencing factors for the retention of social workers. On the other hand, the helping nature of the social work industry and the work requirements of helping people in need can cause social workers heavy pressure, which can lead to depression in severe cases. In this case,as the second "permanent residence" of social workers, the support provided by the institution has an extremely important impact on social workers’ depression and turnover intention. Therefore, under the guidance of job demand-job resource theory, this study mainly discusses the mediating role of depression in the relationship between job support and turnover intention of social workers.Using quantitative research methods, this study surveyed 5,965 social workers using data from the National Social Work Survey, updated in 2019.The turnover intention Scale, the flow Call Depression Self-rating Scale and the social support Scale were used to measure the levels of depression, job support and turnover intention of social workers. The overall levels of the three variables of social workers and their differences in demographic characteristics were analyzed, and the relationship between the variables was analyzed. The results showed that:(1)the turnover intention of social workers was affected by gender, age, marital status, working years, educational level and professional background;(2)Job support, depressive mood and turnover intention of social workers were correlated respectively.Job support negatively affected turnover intention, depression positively affected turnover intention, and job support negatively affected depression mood.(3)Depression has a significant negative mediating effect on the relationship between job support and turnover intention of social workers. Therefore, this paper believes that creating good working conditions and providing adequate work support for social workers can alleviate their depression and reduce their turnover intention and behavior. The study summarized the reasons leading to the turnover of social workers and explored the relationship between the three variables. On this basis, intervention methods were proposed to provide certain reference value for social work organizations and achieve the purpose of retaining social work professionals.
