A Case Study On Social Work Intervention In Community Elderly Care Services Under Sudden Public Health Incidents

With the acceleration of population aging in China,the issue of elderly care has come one after another.The elderly’s elderly care needs are becoming increasingly diverse,and the focus of elderly care is shifting from environmental venues to service quality.Community based homebased elderly care has been widely chosen and paid attention to.In recent years,sudden public health incidents have occurred frequently,affecting a wide range and lasting for a long time,posing a serious threat to the personal and property safety of the people.As a vulnerable group,the elderly are affected by basic diseases and have poor resistance to sudden public health events.As a gathering place for the elderly,communities can provide basic elderly care services and meet the needs of the elderly care environment.However,due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19,the community has been overwhelmed with the work to fight against the epidemic,and the daily elderly care services are difficult to sustain.The elderly are affected by the epidemic,and have different needs for elderly care services.At present,domestic scholars have rich theoretical and practical research results on public health emergencies such as the COVID-19,but there are few research results on elderly care services in this period.This article takes sudden public health incidents as the research background,uses social support theory as support,and takes the elderly in J community of Haikou City as the research subject,focusing on the elderly care service needs of the elderly population.During the internship in J Community,Haikou City,the author collected data and analyzed the special elderly care service needs of the elderly during the COVID-19 period through understanding the basic living conditions of the elderly.From the formal and informal social support of the elderly,through the whole practice process,we seek the elderly care service needs and problems during the COVID-19,and explore the service effects of case intervention.The research attempts to achieve three goals: firstly,under the theory of social support during sudden public health emergencies,explore and practice methods for social work to intervene in community elderly care services,and promote the application of social support theory in social work;The second is to help social workers form scientific and effective intervention strategies during sudden public health emergencies,and provide special elderly care services for the elderly;The third is to provide new ideas for the elderly care services in J Community of Haikou City during the period of sudden public health emergencies,fill the gap in research on elderly care services during this period,and provide reference for the subsequent expansion of applications.This article will be discussed from the following parts: The beginning is an introduction,which mainly introduces the overall background and significance of practical research,a review of research on community elderly care services,the impact of sudden public health events on community elderly care,social work intervention in sudden public health events,exploration of relevant concepts and theoretical support,and research methods that will be used in practical research.The first part is the project design for the elderly in J community of Haikou City in the event of sudden public health emergencies.Data is collected through interview and participation observation methods,and social support theory is used to analyze the elderly care service needs of J community,facilitating the subsequent practical work.The second part elaborates on the practical process of social work intervention in J community elderly care services under sudden public health emergencies.Through the application of social support theory,it explores the formal and informal social support of service recipients,completes communication work through telephone channels,and achieves planning goals.The third part is about the issues and reflections on the involvement of social work in community elderly care services.The fourth part proposes the conclusions and shortcomings of the research.
