This study drew on Giddens’ s structural duality theory, and took the "double first-class" university H University as an example to analyze the interaction of undergraduates’ practice activities with the GPA,and the institutional and action dilemma.By analyzing the policy texts related to the GPA of H University, this study showed that the GPA was a teaching management and academic evaluation system with credits and grade points as the basic measurement indicators, and it had three aspects of regularity, resources and value. The GPA was made as a collection of rules and resources. In educational practice activities, based on grade point rankings and the differences in the possession and availability of resources, the students were objectively stratified in practice. The "circle" structure of undergraduates caused by the GPA stimulated the differentiated learning competition between "inner circle people" and "outer circle people".In addition, students were active and reflective subjects. In response to the restraining effect of the grade point system, students also took strategic actions characterized by "preemptive strikes","number games","relationship climbing",and evasion skills.Under the strategic action of undergraduates, the result of “Fetishism of fractions”has been formed in the field of higher education. The essence of fractional fetishism was that students worshipped grade points and the symbols behind them. And the imbalance of multiple logical relationships in the grade point average was the main reason for the system and action dilemma of fractional fetishism. In view of the problems existing in the grade point average and students’ learning practice, this study believed that it was necessary to correctly locate the function and significance of the grade point average and construct a scientific and reasonable student evaluation system in order to achieve the goals of in-depth learning, promote the long-term development of students and improve the quality of higher education personnel training. |
