As a major public health emergency,the novel COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on people around the world.As a high degree of personnel gathering social groups,colleges are prone to the COVID-19,which is also the outbreak of relevant social public opinion,and it is easy to greatly affect the emotions and thoughts of students.The purpose of this paper is to make a positive,scientific and effective research on the public sentiment formed when the COVID-19 is coming,which can reduce the affect and harm of public health events on universities,improve the professional level of colleges and universities in dealing with public health emergencies,which has certain guiding significance in dealing with public health emergencies in the future.Firstly,this paper searched seven hot topics closely related to university campuses during the COVID-19 on Sina Weibo.With the help of python and using the Scrapy framework,seven hot topics related to the development of the COVID-19 in China have been crawled from January 1,2020 to December 30,2022.In selection of specific research subjects,this paper focuses on Ji Lin Agricultural Science and Technology University,with graduates and current student users are set as the source of sample analysis.Then using Snow NLP emotional analysis and BERT subject analysis of public sentiment analysis methods,after Pre-processing,this paper analyzes the public sentiment tendency,public sentiment classification,and the spread of college students’ public sentiment tendency and emotional types in the COVID-19.Research on campus epidemic topics through Bert topic analysis and feature extraction to extract themes.The analysis of Snow NLP results show that during the COVID-19 on campus,negative public sentiment is the main tendency of public opinioin.,followed by positive public sentiment and neutral public sentiment;Different tendencies and types of public sentiment have different spreading power,while negative tendencies in campus public sentiment have stronger communication capability.According to Bert’s topic analysis,the outbreak and development of the epidemic,as well as the issue of "school closures" during the epidemic,are important themes on campus epidemic;Faced with the epidemic,college students are paying more attention to the nationwide fight against the epidemic,which is the main theme of campus public sentiment;Compared to the development trend of foreign epidemics,college students are more concerned about the development trend of domestic epidemics;In addition,the affect of classes and online teaching caused by the epidemic have also brought significant negative impacts to college students.From the results of statistical analysis,the COVID-19 has produced a strong impact on public sentiment within the campus,bringing a greater degree of discussion,attention and emotional reaction from the whole society.This study comprehensively used Snow NLP emotional analysis and Bert topic analysis to show the public sentiment situation on campus during the COVID-19.On this basis,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)During the COVID-19,college students have a greater dependence on network teaching;(2)The general emotional of college students is negative,but positive emotions also lead the development trend of public sentiment in certain topics;(3)In the face of the COVID-19,the psychological anxiety of college students is more prominent;(4)The communication capability of negative public sentiment is stronger than that of positive public sentiment,while the communication capability of neutral public sentiment is the weakest.
