National identity refers to a citizen’s ability to recognize his or her own emotional attitude toward the country in which he or she lives,an identification with that country’s history,culture,political system,national sovereignty,etc.,and a strong sense of belonging and social responsibility.As the new force needed for the future development of our country,junior high school students are in a critical period of values formation and development,and their attitudes and perceptions of the country to a certain extent affect the orientation of values in the overall future social environment.The history curriculum,however,focuses on the excavation of the excellent cultural heritage of the Chinese nation in the course of its historical development,prompting students to establish a correct view of history,nation,culture and ethnicity,which is an important way to cultivate students’ sense of identity.Therefore,it is important to explore the current situation of developing national identity education in junior high school history curriculum,which helps to grasp the national identity attitudes and value tendencies of students at this stage and provides references for further optimizing the implementation of national identity education.This study interprets the history curriculum standards of compulsory education based on national identity education,divides the content dimensions of national identity education,and analyzes the content of national identity education contained in the unified version of Chinese history textbooks for junior high schools.Three junior high schools in Zibo City,Shandong Province were selected as the survey objects,and the school’s students and teachers were investigated through questionnaire survey and interview method to further reveal the current situation of national identity education in junior high school history curriculum.The investigation revealed that there were some problems in the implementation process.First,the goals of national identity education are not clear enough.Second,the outdated concept of national identity held by schools and teachers affects teaching effectiveness.Third,the simplification of teachers’ teaching forms makes the effect of educating people poor.Fourth,the school has not formed a linkage mechanism with the society and the family,which is not conducive to the cultivation of the concept of national identity.Accordingly,this study analyzes the causes of these problems.Firstly,school education deviates from the essence of educating people and ignores the individual needs of students;secondly,the role models of teachers themselves are weak;thirdly,the national identity literacy of the teaching staff is insufficient;fourthly,parents do not pay much attention to national identity education;fifthly,the invasion of bad social ideas gradually affects the ideology and values of junior high school students.By analyzing the problems and causes of the national identity education in the current junior high school history curriculum,the corresponding optimization strategies are put forward in a targeted manner.First of all,the goal and content of national identity education should be clarified,the goals of national identity education in history curriculum should be refined,and the implementation effect can be better improved by deepening national identity education based on curriculum content.Secondly,organize national identity education and training activities,innovate the concept of teachers’ national identity,change the single teaching method,and further enhance teachers’ national identity literacy.Finally,it is necessary to update the concept of parents,create a good family tradition,regulate social media,play its active guiding role,achieve multi-party collaborative education,and help junior high school students internalize their sense of national identity and behave.
