| STEAM education is a new educational ideas that has received considerable attention both domestically and internationally.In recent years,the implementation of the national innovative talent development strategy has made people feel the urgent need for innovative talents,which play a crucial role in the country’s development.The core competencies of students in the 21 st century require them to possess skills and knowledge that meet the needs of social development.The proposal of STEAM education is precisely in line with the requirements of the development of the times.Cultivating students’ core literacy is the goal orientation and value pursuit of China’s curriculum and teaching reform,and this highly comprehensive literacy calls for the application of integrated thinking in curriculum and teaching.On the contrary,the current subject based teaching in China lacks the connection between knowledge and knowledge,the connection between knowledge and society,and the connection between subject knowledge and subject knowledge.In solving practical problems,students often cannot transfer knowledge from various disciplines,break down barriers between disciplines,connect knowledge,and view problems with a holistic approach.In January 2018,China’s new curriculum standards explicitly proposed the need to "focus on the overall ideas of the discipline and promote the implementation of core competencies in the discipline." The proposal of the ideas has attracted the attention of many experts and scholars,who consider it as the key to implementing core competencies in the discipline,which is precisely in line with STEAM education’s cultivation of students’ core competencies.In addition,the new curriculum standards for ordinary high schools issued by the Ministry of Education for the first time propose the use of "big ideas" to integrate the curriculum content of various disciplines,guide curriculum and teaching reform,and clearly emphasize the promotion of the transformation of core literacy of disciplines with the big ideas of disciplines as the core.In view of the cultivation of national innovative talents and the implementation of core competencies,this article conducts a study on STEAM teaching design for primary and lower grades based on the big ideas.In addition to research summary and outlook,this article is divided into the following five parts:The first chapter: Introduction.This article mainly elaborates on the research background and foundation,research purpose and significance,clarifies the research ideas and framework,and clarifies the research methods and content of STEAM teaching design for primary and lower grades based on big ideas.The second chapter: Summarize relevant theories,elaborate on the basis of research theories,and define core ideas.That is to sort out the current research status of STEAM education and big ideas both domestically and internationally.Based on the existing research on big ideas and STEAM education,this article explains the basic theory of this article on the basis of consulting relevant literature and data organization.And clarify the connotation of core ideas such as "STEAM education","big ideas",and "teaching design based on big ideas".The third chapter: Review relevant literature and organize,analyze the problems and drawbacks of traditional teaching in reality.This article argues that knowledge organization is fragmented and difficult to grasp as a whole;The selection of knowledge content is shallow and difficult to deeply understand;The setting of scenarios is fixed,making it difficult to achieve knowledge transfer and other issues.The fourthly chapter: Based on the characteristics of transfer ability and comprehensiveness of big ideas,this article elaborates on the value of introducing bigideas into the STEAM teaching design of primary schools.It is beneficial for students to connect their knowledge and grasp the overall concept;Deepening the understanding of the essence of knowledge and forming scientific ideas is beneficial for promoting the transfer of students’ knowledge.The fifth chapter: The STEAM teaching design framework based on the big concept is proposed,and the objective world,teaching activities and curriculum projects of various disciplines in STEAM education such as science,technology,engineering,humanities and mathematics are analyzed,and the STEAM teaching design theoretical framework based on the big concept is constructed.That is,it selects STEAM unit theme,defines big concept and big concept as the orientation,sets unit teaching objectives,formulates core issues,highlights big concept,creates unit teaching activities,activates big concept,implements unit teaching evaluation,and deepens big concept.The sixth chapter: Research design and implementation.Elaborate on the design and implementation of teaching activities.Elaborate on five aspects: preliminary practical research,design of activity themes,activity design plan and implementation effect guarantee,intervention activities and implementation schedule arrangement,data collection and analysis plan.According to the above teaching design framework,take the "tie dye" unit as an example to carry out Case method design.And through the form of isomerism in the same class,the "tie dyeing" teaching design case will be put into teaching practice,that is,educational experiments will be carried out.Finally,organize and use SPSS 21.0 to analyze the data and obtain the teaching results of the experimental implementation.The main conclusions of this study include: 1)The design of elementary school STEAM teaching based on big ideas,and the organization of teaching activities can help students master basic knowledge,break down subject barriers,and facilitate the transfer and connection of various subject knowledge contained in the five elements of STEAM when solving problems,thereby improving students’ learning abilities.Introducing big ideas into STEAM education not only enables students to master interdisciplinary knowledge,but also the main core knowledge of various disciplines.In problem-solving,students can use holistic thinking to approach and solve problems,and cultivate their core competencies.2)It is feasible to implement a series of STEAM teaching activity plans based on big ideas in the experimental class(Class B). |
