Non-suicidal self-injury is a complex and dangerous psychopathological behavior that is often associated with various psychological problems or disorders. The behavior not only poses immediate risks, but also significantly increases the likelihood of future suicidal ideation and behavior.College students,in particular, are at a critical stage of psychological development and may be more susceptible to non-suicidal self-injury and other risky behaviors due to the heavy academic workload and numerous stressors they face.Studies have shown that the prevalence of self-injury behavior among young people in China is higher than that in Western countries, and this trend is on the rise.It is worth noting that family plays a crucial role in shaping the development and well-being of adolescents, and the quality of parental relationships can have a profound impact on children’s cognitive, behavioral, and social function. This study seeks to shed light on non-suicidal self-injury behaviors among Chinese college students, utilizing the experiential avoidance model to explore the relationship between parental conflict, depression, emotion dysregulation, and non-suicidal self-injury.Specifically,a structural equation model is employed to examine the mediating role of depression in the link between parental conflict and non-suicidal self-injury,as well as the moderating effect of emotion dysregulation in the relationship between parental conflict, depression, and non-suicidal self-injury.By conducting an empirical study in China, this research aims to validate the experiential avoidance model and provide a more nuanced understanding of how parental conflict impacts non-suicidal self-injury behaviors in the context of Chinese culture, thus uncovering the underlying mechanisms that drive such behaviors among college students. The methods of convenience sampling and random cluster sampling are adopted in this study. In this study, college students from more than 30 schools in central, eastern and western China were selected to conduct anonymous online questionnaires. In this survey, questionnaires with obvious logical errors >5%were excluded, and a total of 1125 valid questionnaires were collected. The average age of 1,125 college students surveyed was 26.79,with 488 male students(43.30 percent)and 637 female students(56.6 percent). In this study, the Adolescent Self-Injury Behavior Scale was used to investigate the occurrence of non-suicidal self-injury in the past. The Children’s Perception Inter-Parental Conflict(CPIC)scale was used to assess the subjects’ perception of Parental Conflict.Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale(DERS-16)were used to measure the emotion regulation ability of the subjects. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9)was used to assess the participants’ depression status in the past two weeks. In the data analysis part,SPSS27.0,AMOS21.0 software was used for analysis, and the comprehensive research results showed that: 1.The variables of parental conflict, emotion dysregulation, depression and non-suicidal self-injury of college students were significantly correlated.2.Depression has a mediating effect between parental conflict and non-suicidal self-injury.That is,parental conflict can not only directly affect non-suicidal NSSI,but also affect non-suicidal NSSI through depression.3.emotion dysregulation can significantly regulate the relationship between parental conflict and non-suicidal self-injury.4.The mediating effect of depression on parental conflict and non-self-injures is moderated by emotion dysregulation. That is,there is a moderated mediating effect.emotion dysregulation Can adjust the first half path of the mediation model.Under the regulation of high intensity emotion dysregulation, the more parental conflicts, the higher the degree of depression of college students. This study verified the applicability of the experience avoidance model for Chinese college students by exploring the relationship mechanism among parental conflict, difficulty in regulating emotions, depression, and non-suicidal self-injury behaviors. At the same time, the application validity of this model is enriched in the cross-cultural background, and provides a suitable theoretical basis for social work to intervene the non-suicidal self-injury behavior of Chinese college students. This paper gives suggestions on social worker intervention from individual, family, school and society. It aims to help college students face the psychological shadow caused by parental conflict, improve their emotional regulation ability, and regain growth motivation. Finally,it will promote them to face life with a more optimistic attitude and develop healthily.
