At present,China is in an important period of economic transformation and upgrading,and with the rapid development of agriculture and rural areas,there is an urgent need to cultivate a group of highly skilled and applied talents who dare to innovate and are good at innovation to support the healthy development of China’s rural economy.After three years of extremely rapid expansion,as of September 2022,the nation’s higher vocational institutions have increased by 4.133 million students,with a total enrollment of 5.526 million students in higher vocational institutions in 2021.At present,more than 1,300 subject specialties and over 120,000 subject specialization points have been established in the country’s major higher vocational colleges and universities,and they basically cover all application areas of China’s economy,and China has built the largest vocational education system in the world.Meanwhile,the number of college graduates nationwide continues to grow,and the size of the 2023 class of college graduates is expected to reach 11.58 million,and the unemployment rate of China’s 16-24-year-old population has approached 20% in the second half of 2022.This study investigates the students enrolled in Guangxi Industrial Vocational Technology College through questionnaires and interviews to understand their willingness to serve the countryside,analyze the main factors that restrict their service to the countryside,and propose improvement strategies accordingly.The reasons for the low willingness of students in higher vocational colleges to serve the countryside can be analyzed from several aspects: the government,higher vocational colleges,students’ families and students’ individuals.From the government level,the policy of encouraging students from higher vocational colleges to go to rural areas for employment and business is not attractive;from the higher vocational college level,the school does not provide proper guidance for students’ employment,and the teaching resources,hardware facilities and teachers’ quality are not improved and enhanced accordingly in the face of the drastic increase in the number of students;from the family level,as the families of higher vocational students do not see their choice of serving rural areas.This becomes the main factor that restricts them to serve the countryside;from the students’ personal level,they do not have a comprehensive understanding of the new countryside,their employment concept is too old-fashioned and their employment planning lacks rationality.To enhance students’ willingness to serve the countryside,we can start from three levels: from the government level,we should improve the employment policy,vigorously promote industrial integration,enhance the social identity of higher education,and do a good job of rural employment publicity and public opinion guidance;from the level of higher education institutions,we should insist on matching the professional settings with the market demand,strengthen the publicity of students’ service to the countryside,guide students to establish a correct employment concept,strengthen the service At the level of higher vocational colleges,students should understand the national employment policy,understand the current employment market,improve their own practical quality,and establish a correct employment concept,and actively respond to the national call "go to the west,go to the place where the motherland needs".
