| This paper integrates visual rhetoric,multimodal narrative,visual communication design and other related theories to study the narrator,narrative language,narrative design and narrative reception of visual news.It is found that the narratives of visual news can be divided into overt narrators and covert narrators according to their presence in the text.Overt narrators are represented in visual texts in two forms:visual marking out and visual overview.In the visual highlighting strategy,narrators design certain visual elements in color,font or form to map specific narrative elements into a more prominent visual priority channel,triggering readers’ specific attention and fixed association with a certain part of the news story.bring out the narrative voice.The covert narrator manifests itself in visual news in four forms:visual metaphor,visual punctuation,visual framing,and procedural rhetoric.In the visual metaphor strategy,the narrator hides himself behind the metaphorical imagery by establishing an implicit category and outputs an implicit point of view;in the visual punctuation strategy,the narrator breaks the stable balance of the image by embedding unusual images in the details of the image to inject implicit meaning;in the visual frame strategy,the narrator constructs a fixed interpretative pattern of the text through visual narrative and design techniques to limit the reader’s interpretation of the news In the procedural rhetoric strategy,narrators set up interaction rules behind the visual text to guide users to explore specific sides of the story and engage in visual persuasion.Both overt and covert narrators inevitably intervene in the narrative process by injecting their own reporting intentions into the visual language arrangement to produce and even reconstruct the meaning of the news at the visual level.At the level of narrative language,although visual news as a whole follows visual logic and is presented in a visual style,the narrative process inevitably colludes with other media to a greater or lesser extent,continuously promoting the innovation of news narrative in the process of integration of various media elements.The narrative language in excellent visual news works has two prominent features:appropriation and reorganization.Appropriation responds to the innovation of news narrative language from the perspective of"re-mediatisation",and visual news completes the "re-mediatisation" narrative in the dimension of media form and the "re-mediatisation" narrative in the dimension of media grammar by appropriating the content,style or technical characteristics of other media.The"re-mediated" narrative of media grammar.Among them,the appropriation of film narrative grammar is more common in award-winning visual news works,with montage narrative grammar being the most representative.Montage narrative grammar brings out the news focus and narrative theme by dismantling and reorganizing different parts of the news story,enriching the narrative level and deepening the connotation of the report.The reorganization responds to the problem of multimodal narratives in visual news in the era of convergence.The section on language-graphic narrative focuses on the verbal and visual modes in visual news,pointing out that the language-graphic narrative relationship in visual news is divided into two kinds of narratives:the unified narrative in which language unifies images to anchor the narrative meaning,and the dialogic narrative in which language and images complement each other to shape the narrative space and time.The audiovisual narrative focuses on the auditory and visual modalities in visual news,and summarizes the two kinds of audiovisual narrative relationships:audiovisual-enhanced complementary narratives and audiovisual-enhanced non-complementary narratives in visual news.Through "re-mediated"media appropriation and multimodal media reorganization,visual news expands its own narrative language system and opens up multiple cognitive paths to news stories for readers,enriching their reading experience.At the level of narrative design,the narrator of visual news fully invokes the visual language of point,line,color,composition and other visual narratives to transcode and reproduce different details in the news story,presenting the news facts in a more aesthetic,direct and profound way in three dimensions and influencing readers’ perception of the news story.In this paper,the study of narrative design in visual news focuses on graphic composition and color composition.In the plane composition level,the visual news narrator firstly extracts the core protagonist of the narrative and gives specific visual elements to present in the plane;secondly,he uses the basic elements of the plane composition,such as points,lines and surfaces,to make narrative transformation with the relevant parts of the news story,re-decode the text information and re-code the visualization around the points,lines and surfaces to improve the visual The visualization of text information is re-decoded and re-encoded around point,line and surface elements to improve the visual aesthetics and attractiveness of news reports and obtain better communication effects.At the level of color composition,the rational use of color in the narrative process of visual news can better highlight the narrative theme,express the character,enrich the narrative level and influence the reader’s perception of the story.On the one hand,visual news narrators choose colors that match the narrative theme to set the narrative tone of the text in the fastest time,attract readers’ attention in a specific direction of meaning,deepen the core connotation of the report,and use color to highlight the narrative theme;on the other hand,narrators can fully use the different color variations to show the state changes between different levels of events,and use color as the basis for the text to On the other hand,the narrator can use color as a basis to link the text,strengthen the reader’s perception of the narrative time and space,and complete the bonding and transition between different narrative layers.In the narrative acceptance section,the study found the same text content may be interpreted differently by heterogeneous readers because of their different vision of expectation.However,in the perspective of readers’ expectation,the acceptance of narrative works is not entirely carried out by readers’ personal subjective impression.Readers are usually guided by some signals embedded in the narrative process of the text narrator,thus forming directional perception.Therefore,the narrator can exert subjective initiative in the narrative text and guide readers to understand and perceive the text information and viewpoint intention more accurately in the process of text acceptance as much as possible.Visual news as a
