| After the Sino-Indian border conflict in June 2020 was reported by the Indian English-language media,it presented a situation of international public opinion in which China "invaded" India and India "suffered".This study selects all the news reports of Indian representative English-language media on the border conflict,uses the theory of "Peace Journalism" as a reference,carries out discourse analysis at the structural and temporal levels respectively according to Van Dijk News Discourse Analysis Model and conflict discourse analysis framework,analyzes the domestic and foreign contexts of discourse generation from the perspective of "Two-Level Games",and proposes the discourse mechanism of Chinese-related military news in Indian English-language media.The first chapter of this study is the introduction.The second to forth chapters analyze and explain the news discourse.The sixth chapter summarizes the news discourse mechanism based on the previous analysis,and the seventh chapter summarizes and discusses.The study found that the discourse mechanism of Indian English-language media on China-related military conflicts has both "peace" and "war" orientations,and its discourse setting follows the logic of realism in international relations.Based on India’s urgent national strategic demands,Indian English-language media set three core discourse strategic paths for China,including 13 specific discourse strategic paths: the India’s "Power" theory,China’s "expansionism" theory and the "Indo-Pacific" strategic theory.In the discourse mechanism,the element of power and ideology is the leading element,the element of peace and violence information is the core of construction,and the element of independent creativity of the media is the embodiment of the media profession.The interaction of the three main elements promotes the realization of the discourse strategic paths.The realization of a national strategic demands often adopts one or more categories of discourse strategic paths to launch discourse attacks on China from multiple angles,forming a complex discourse system of China related military news.There is a "triangular game" of politics,commerce and professionalism in the discourse setting of Indian international media.There are seven main types of discourse participants in the discourse mechanism.The identity level of participants and their frequency of occurrence show a "pyramid" structure.At the tactical path level of discourse,Indian international media skillfully use a variety of discourse skills in the temporal logic of conflict and at the level of context and text.The study believes that the external communication of China-related military conflicts needs to make every effort to crack the "expansionist" discourse against China,break the discourse setting that highly connects China’s military power with the security of neighboring countries and surrounding areas,set the topics of criticizing geo strategies with regional security threats,pay more attention to the timely and necessary presentation of facts,emphasize the construction of China’s "active defense" military strategy discourse,focuses on the construction of the positive image of the Chinese army in conflict,and the construction of strategies that conform to the perception of Western readers in the text and context. |
