Schools are responsible for cultivating talents for the society.As the supporting institution of the school,school libraries undertakes the important task of providing services for teaching and scientific research,and plays an important role in education.It should play a positive role in creating strong reading atmosphere and arouse students’ interest in reading.This study adopts the case study method as the main research method.On the basis of investigating teachers and students’ demands for the use of school library reading space,the necessity of its construction are analyzed from the aspects of teachers’ and students’ reading needs,students’ reading literacy,teaching,and school culture construction.According to relevant theories and policies,it attempts to define the components of immersive reading space.With the study of the cases of immersive space construction at home and abroad,it proposes the steps and methods of immersive reading space construction,and proposes some ways to overcome the difficulties that may occur in the construction.Based on the existing national and local policies on the construction of reading space,this study deconstructs the immersive reading space into two dimensions and three elements.Two dimensions consists of the dominant dimension and the recessive dimension,while three elements contains the physical building environment,virtual reality resources and spiritual perception space,Physical building environment is the physical space including all physical resources and services.Virtual reality resource is the core content of immersive reading space,including virtual reality resource database,related facilities and equipment used to present virtual reality technology and related services.The level of spiritual perception is the interaction between the reading space and the users,that is,the interaction between environment and feeling.With the study in Y secondary vocational school,the basic conclusions are:Firstly,through questionnaires,interviews and other forms,we have a general picture of the current situation of the use of reading space,the needs for teachers and students to use the library and their suggestions.At the same time,the specific attitudes of teachers and students towards the possible impact of the construction of immersive reading space are investiaged,showing a strong desire for space transformation.Secondly,according to the survey results,teachers and students think that four important items ranked the top in reading space are the environment of reading space,reading seats,space division and literature resources,and the last two items are tied for third place.Based on the needs of teachers and students,the necessity of the construction of immersive reading space are clarified as the following 3 aspects.First,the resources of immersive reading space should be used tocultivate students’ reading skills,stimulate students’ reading interest and provide flexible reading media to assist the improvement of students’ reading quality;Second,there should be a breakthrough out of traditional teaching space and strengthen the connection between the users and the library to realize the construction function of immersive reading space.Finally,through the construction of immersive reading space to highlight the school’s characteristic culture.Thirdly,based on the needs to improve the reading quality,together with the relevant national and local policies and the requirements of the case school’s development planning,the three components of immersive reading space are defined as physical building environment,virtual reality resources and mental perception space,based on the requirements of situational cognition theory,scenarioized learning theory,reading promotion theory and school culture theory.Fourthly,the steps for the construction of immersive reading space are put forward.In the early stage,it needs to fully investigate the needs of users and do a good job in space planning and design.In the middle stage,the construction of physical buildings,the construction of literature information resources and project acceptance will be carried out.In the third stage,it should standardize the rule system and build a qualified team for service and branding to ensure the sustainable development of immersive reading space.Finally,countermeasures and suggestions are put forward for the difficulties in the construction of immersive reading space.The establishment of virtual reality resource database has high requirements for technology and funding.,which can be expected to be supported by a professional external company team who is capable for establishing and integrating the resource platform,and the school can solve the difficulties in the construction by purchasing services.
