| Kang Youwei is a famous political activist in modern China. He is also one of the earliest scholars who contacted western museums and conducted research. He has written a lot of relevant works, leaving us a valuable legacy to study the history of museum science.Kang Youwei’s museological thought was mainly formed from two periods: before the Reform Movement in 1989,he mainly learned the nature, function and reality of museums through western books;the second,he traveled around the world and visited a large number of museums and then deepened the specific understanding of foreign museums, and put forward a series of ideas for the localization of museums in China, slowly forming his unique museological thought.According to the modern system of museology, his museology thought covers three main aspects, including the nature of museums, the function of museums and the construction methods of museums, and has the characteristics of independent position of nationalism and inclusive pragmatism, which is quite enlightening to the contemporary museum construction and the study of museology.Facing the historical situation of Chinese invasion by western powers,Kang Youwei injected the idea of the museum as the birthplace of technological innovation and national cultural confidence;this made his museology reach the unity with nation and country;he could even view the material civilization of different countries and nations dialectically and unify museum with human material civilization. However, due to the limitations of historical objective conditions and the lack of personal actions,Kang Youwei failed to practice his museology thought in China, thus losing the possibility of further scholarship and systematization in museology, and finally existed as a special branch in the history of Chinese museology. |
