Since entering the 21st century and WTO,China has realized a great leap in opening-up and export growth. With a manufacturing trend of "made in China" raising and the "China craze" heating up continuously,China has received more international attention and topic discussion. In the Internet era,we media floods China-related public opinion(CRPO),the sentiments of the public opinion become an important resource to take Chinese elements global.Incomplete rational sentiment not only influences the decision made by individuals and organizations, but also a potential force to drive national behavior and even to shape the international system, which has some subtle effects on trade at micro or macro levels.Positive sentiment is the adhesive of multi-party trust, but negative sentiment aggravates the trust crisis.Public opinion environment must be considered in international trade.Especially in recent years, the process of globalization has been hindered and public opinion barriers in trade protection becomes conceal, normal, and expanding,so CRPO is also affected without exception. Therefore, the fluctuation of international public opinion environment may lead to changes in China’s bilateral exports, which undoubtedly adds unprecedented and unavoidable difficulties to export activities. This paper studies the relationship between CRPO and export in the we-media era.Based on the existing literature,it is found that we media promotes the reform of public opinion environment and its research methods from the aspects of content, communication, and technology. After sorting out the definition, characteristics, processing technology and text analysis application of public opinion in the we-media era,and elaborating the research status of information technology, media reports and public opinion environment on export, this paper puts forward the core opinion that public opinion will affect export in the we-media era. From the statistics of China-related tweets on Twitter in 2007-2019,it is found that the international public opinion environment faced by China is becoming more complex and the CRPO in the we-media era builds on the world political and economic system.Describe the changes of China’s bilateral export flow and different products export in 2007-2019,the paper finds that both China’s export scale and structure make some progress.According to theoretical analysis and data statistics, construct an extended trade gravity model and use regression analysis method to estimate. It is found that CRPO will significantly affect export, and every 1%increase in the negative public opinion index will lead to an average about 0.1528% decrease in the China’s export. Therefore, the deterioration of CRPO environment measured by negative public opinion index will significantly reduce China’s exports to other economies, while the improvement of public opinion environment will significantly increase China’s exports. This conclusion remains in robustness tests. In the heterogeneity analysis, the improvement of CRPO environment measured by positive public opinion index will also promote exports, while the neutral public opinion measured by neutral public opinion composite index has no impact on exports. The impact of the public opinion on exports is significant in developing,no one-beltone-road,or no partner relationship economies. At the same time, the worse the CRPO environment, the export volume of industrial manufactured products, capital products and technical products will be significantly reduced. The mechanism channels test using the intermediary effect model shows that CRPO affects exports through three intermediary variables: consumer preference, trade uncertainty and trade intervention measures, and the intermediary effect of trade intervention measures accounts for a larger proportion in the total effect. In conclusion, based on the above research findings, for the government, enterprises, and media, this paper provides the suggestions about effectively dealing with the complex and changeable public opinion environment in the we-media era and alleviating the negative impact of public opinion on exports.
