The Research On The Presentation Of Subcultural Capital In Rap Music Variety Shows

With the development of the Internet audio-visual platform,online variety shows have become the new favorite of the platform.Facing the creation bottleneck of homogenized themes,variety shows with a subculture as the theme has achieved outstanding results by vertical subdivision.In 2017,<Rap of China>,a show on IQiyi based on rap subculture,brought rap music into the public’s field of vision,which ushered in an explosion.Various online video platforms have created several rap music-themed variety shows,which have repeatedly hit the market in just a few years.Rap music variety shows are the product of deep cultivation and production for the rap music type.The content tends to be "professional",and rap fans and subculture groups are the main audience groups.By means of rap music variety shows,the performers have realized the transformation of subcultural capital to economic capital and social capital under certain conditions by virtue of their unique aesthetic taste and concrete practice of subculture in the form of "cool",which is not common in mainstream society.Supported by the theory of "subcultural capital",this essay discusses how rap music variety shows can achieve mass dissemination by presenting subcultural capital and transforming it into the other two kinds of capital.The essay holds that the subculture of rap music variety shows is spread from the inside to the outside by the path of "program-subcultural core layer-pan-subcultural layer-mass",and the subcultural capital plays many roles in highlighting unique styles,creating narrative conflicts,producing mirror projection,and realizing emotional resonance.The unique style separated from the mainstream shapes the contestant’s "expert" personal image,and the costume modeling,language movement,and stage works are proof of the subcultural capital objectification.Embodiment refers to the fact that subcultural capital cannot be transferred and needs to be acquired by individuals over a long period of time.In rap music variety,it is embodied in the improvisation competition to measure the basic skills of rap,the lyric creation to test the original ability,and the transmission of the spiritual core of authenticity.At the end of the program,the total amount of rap music capital of contestants competed in the way of competition,and the subcultural capital was institutionalized in the form of awards and mainstream discourse evaluation,which also drew a perfect end to the program.In the analysis of the program,it is proved that subcultural capital can also exist in the three forms of cultural capital proposed by Bourdieu(objectification,embodiment,and institutionalization).As rap music variety uses the narrative mode of "competition + reality show",it constructs the "scene" combining virtual and reality,to comprehensively show the contestants and attract and encourage the audience to participate in the link of watching and spreading.The studio scene uses stage design to foil the performance works and sets up a carnival square for everyone to blend into the situation;The background scene is responsible for the decoding of the stage works,the daily images of the contestants after disenchantment,and the internal operating rules of the subculture circle unknown to outsiders.And finally,the audience can see a variety of showpiece is derived from the two scenarios is not a simple addition and,audio-visual language shown on the Internet plays an important role in the narrative,the audience after watching will feedback and interaction helps to show the expansion of transmission of the broken ring to achieve promotion effect.Finally,the paper puts forward that the effective transformation between the three kinds of capital is realized by virtue of the media of rap music and variety shows,namely,a virtuous circle of "popular variety shows--subcultural capital brings economic and social capital--strengthening subcultural capital--improving the reputation of variety shows",feeding rap music back and bringing fresh blood to rap music and variety shows.The variety entertainment industry and rap music continue to complement and develop,improving the living environment of rap music to a certain extent.Experts who have a certain amount of subcultural capital among the singers will also lead Chinese rap music to a bigger stage through rap music variety.
