The 20 th CPC National Congress further points out that strengthening rural governance requires improving "a rural governance system that is politically led, guaranteed by the rule of law, morally educated,self-governing,and intellectually supported." Rural archives,as invaluable historical records to document the long-standing history of rural regions and human activity, are a critical factor in the formation of rural governance systems. In the old days,China possesses an excellent tradition of rural governance, maintaining orders of family and the society of the village and educating people all by using genealogical archives and establishing village rules, which still has high reference value and significance for promoting effective rural governance in the contemporary society. To give full play to the role of rural archives in rural governance, the key is to do a good job of rural archives. The work of rural archives refers to the work of village cadres, villagers, archival workers and social organizations under the leadership of the Party,to jointly carry out legal, scientific, standardized and systematic management, preservation and utilization of the archives affairs surrounding the generation, evolution and development of the village. The good work of rural archives can help to serve rural governance and achieve good governance. Therefore, the practical importance of conducting a systematic study of rural archives work is immense from the viewpoint of rural governance. This paper utilizes multiple research methods involving studies and case studies, providing further insight into the relevant issue. To begin with, the article examines the ideas of rural governance and rural archives work and sorts out the traditional rural governance ideas, the connotation of rural archives, and the historical experience of rural archives in China, the new era has seen rural archives work;furthermore,it clarifies the underlying logic of rural archives reflecting rural governance and three aspects have been elucidated to explore the role of rural archives in rural governance: rural archival resources construction indicating the direction of rural governance, rural archives work highlighting the rural "virtue" thought, and rural archives work protecting memory and reviving rural culture; Then,it discusses the opportunities faced by the current rural archives work from three perspectives: the implementation effect of the rural revitalization strategy, the extension of the national governance practice and the importance of rural archives work at home and abroad; Then,it studies the challenges rural archives is confronted with from three perspectives: the weak foundation, the lack of archive consciousness, and the absence of practical motivation.Ultimately, from the perspective of rural governance, this paper puts forward the improvement strategies of rural archives from four aspects: connecting rural administration, caring for rural feelings, making rural contracts and comforting homesickness.Based on the geographic classification of villages,it develops a comprehensive and operable classification scheme for rural archives that respects the differences and considers the actual situation of rural archives. All work to effectively advance rural archives to serve rural governance will provide archival power for good governance.
