The "Chinese Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education" issued in 2022 proposed four core qualities of the Chinese discipline,among which "language use"is an important component of the core quality of Chinese,and is also the foundation of the other three core qualities.The junior high school stage is a critical period for students’ language development.During this period,it is very important to lay a solid language foundation for students.As an important content of Chinese teaching in middle schools,modern and contemporary prose language has the characteristics of conciseness,beauty,freedom,and flexibility,as well as unique aesthetic characteristics.It is of great significance to enrich the accumulation of students’language materials,enhance their ability to perceive language,and improve their language expression and communication skills.Therefore,based on the core quality of cultivating students’ language use,this article conducts a research on modern and contemporary prose teaching in junior high schools.This article mainly discusses the following aspects:The first chapter gives an overall overview of contemporary prose teaching,including the selection of textbooks,the teaching value of prose language use,and teaching tasks.The second chapter mainly uses observation,interview,and questionnaire methods to go deep into the actual Chinese classroom of Beijing F Middle School.It introduces the teaching and learning situation of modern and contemporary prose language use in F Middle School from two aspects:school overview and language teaching overview.It investigates the teaching and learning situation of prose language use from both teachers and students.The third chapter analyzes the current situation of teaching in F Middle S chool,and finds that F Middle School has many desirable experiences in the teaching of prose language:being good at creating prose language teaching situations,allowing students to feel the charm of prose language in the context,and stimulating students’interest in prose language;Good at effective questioning,allowing students to actively participate in teaching,and training students’ language organization and thinking abilities;Actively affirm students’ answers,let students feel their progress and achievements,and improve their willingness and confidence in language expression.However,during the investigation,it was also found that F Middle School has shortcomings in the teaching of modern and contemporary prose language use:students lack the accumulation of prose language materials,the training of prose language sense accounts for a small proportion in the classroom,and it is difficult to implement the use of prose language in practice.The fourth chapter explores the causes of the problems from the perspectives of students,teachers,and exam requirements.The reasons for these problems include the lack of good prose language learning habits among students,the insufficient understanding of language use by teachers,and the orientation of examination oriented prose language teaching.The fifth chapter provides suggestions for the teaching of modern and contemporary prose language use from three aspects:language material accumulation,language sense training,and practical pragmatics.In order to further optimize the teaching effect of modern and contemporary prose and better cultivate students’ language proficiency.
