2020 marks the 40 th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.Different from the political center Beijing and the financial center Shanghai,Shenzhen,as one of the first special economic zones,has become the focus of domestic and international attention with its "Shenzhen Speed","Shenzhen Model" and "Shenzhen Spirit".Shenzhen not only represents the forefront of the socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics,but also represents the center of China’s manufacturing industry,but also represents the practical model of the "Chinese Road",and its influence cannot be underestimated.However,affected by multiple factors such as the political environment,it is difficult for foreign media to fully objectively reflect reality when reporting on the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.It is a construction process with subjective participation.The image of the city is an important part of the image of the country.The shaping of the image should not only pay attention to the "self-shaping" image,but also the "others shaping" the image.The construction and dissemination of the city image of Shenzhen by foreign media directly affects international friends’ perception of China And feelings.Therefore,it is necessary to attach importance to the international public opinion orientation of the city’s image,to continuously improve the external communication strategy of the city’s image,and to enhance the city’s overseas image shaping and communication power.This study selected the American mainstream media "New York Times" as the representative,and selected the time period from August 1980 to July 2020.A total of412 research samples were selected.The research is based on the framework theory,using content analysis and case analysis methods to explore the reasons for the media image presentation and image construction of Shenzhen in the "New York Times",and to provide references for the construction of Shenzhen’s urban image overseas.The research found that in the past 40 years,the media image of Shenzhen in the "New York Times" has mainly changed in four points.First,the report topics have become richer,and the image has changed from single to three-dimensional and diversified;second,attention to economic and technological issues,and balance The "China Threat Theory" appears in the form of "China Threat Theory";third,in the social outlook issue,the number of positive reports has increased,and the indifferent city has gradually shown a warm city image;fourth,in the urban construction issue,the emotional tendency of the report is gradually neutral,Objective,from a backward city to a prosperous city image gradually.Summarizing the characteristics of the media image of Shenzhen in the "New York Times" at various stages,it is found that the reports from August 1980 to July 1990 were mainly based on negative party frameworks,presenting Shenzhen with prominent political problems;August1990-2000 7 Focusing on the conflict framework,focusing on political reform conflicts and social conflicts;August 2000-July 2010,dominated by the factual framework,with a significant proportion of the conflict framework,focusing on the negative effects of economic development;August 2010-July 2020 Based on the factual framework,Shenzhen is presented with a well-developed economy and technology and sharp social contradictions.Finally,the reasons for the change of Shenzhen’s media image in the "New York Times" are mainly attributed to three aspects: political factors,economic factors,and media environmental factors.
