The Internet’s emergence has caused a transformation in the ecology and milieu of knowledge transmission.Short science videos are an important knowledge dissemination carrier in the new media era.Unlike traditional forms of text and picture dissemination,they combine scientific knowledge with short videos,making knowledge easy to understand.Breaking the boundaries of knowledge transmission that had been established in the past,this technology has made it simpler to disseminate knowledge and playing an important role in China.At the same time,the trend of pan-entertainment,fragmentation and flow that has been spawned in the Internet environment is not conducive to the dissemination of knowledge,which has posed new challenges to the development of short science videos.The purpose of popular science videos is not only to disseminate knowledge,but also to bring practical benefits to the lives of the public through the dissemination of useful knowledge,so as to achieve the popularization and benefit of knowledge.In this paper,we study popular science videos from the perspective of knowledge dissemination,and obtain users’ awareness,attitude and specific actions towards the knowledge content in popular science videos by distributing questionnaires to users of popular science videos.In the process of distributing the questionnaires,six suitable users of popular science videos were identified for in-depth interviews to understand the reasons behind these perceptions,attitudes and behaviours;at the same time,five professional creators of popular science videos on internet platforms such as “Weibo” "Douyin" and "Bilibili" were selected for in-depth interviews to understand the current situation and dilemmas of knowledge dissemination in popular science work.The study shows that the current situation,dilemmas and suggestions for future development of science popularization videos in China have been widely discussed.The study shows that the knowledge dissemination of popular science videos in China requires creators to adapt to the Internet environment,operate popular science videos with an Internet mindset and build a user-centred knowledge innovation diffusion path.In the future,the layout of knowledge dissemination will continue to develop and evolve,and the innovative construction of the ecology of science popularization short videos,such as value leadership and industry construction,still needs our further exploration and conclusion.
