With the increasingly complex engineering problems in reality, the "Emerging Engineering Education" reform has been further deepened, and interdisciplinary integration education has become a trend. It has been paid more and more attention to train engineering students’ systematic thinking and enable them to conduct systematic analysis and modeling in complex and changeable engineering scenes.Although the drawing tools currently used are perfect enough in drawing functions, they lack the combination with teaching scenes and the data generated in the modeling process and the comparison of differences in modeling results.Considering that in practical teaching, teachers have the need to pay attention to the behavioral data generated by students in the process of modeling,as well as the need to judge the difference between students’ modeling results, this paper combines visual graphics thinking and unified modeling language to design an online graphical tool to help students establish and cultivate systematic thinking. In addition, this paper proposes a graph difference comparison algorithm, which quantifies the graph difference into comparative and analytical values, providing reference for teachers to evaluate students’systematic thinking performance. The main research work in this paper includes:1)Designing questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to conduct research on students,so as to analyze and evaluate their ability to solve complex problems, their ability to think graphically and their understanding of UML.2)Designing and realizing an online graphical system thinking tool,VisualSys,which provides UML graph drawing, graph question bank, graph management and other functions. At the same time, according to the students’ understanding of UML and the basic concepts of systematic thinking,UML diagrams are classified, and UML graphs are simplified and designed to improve the semantics of graphs.3)Proposing a systematic thinking reference scoring algorithm based on the topological features of graphs and considering the comparison of graph differences, which can quantitatively score the system modeling graphs drawn by students, and realize the evaluation function of VisualSys based on this algorithm.4)Testing and verifying the technical feasibility and functional normality of VisualSys based on test cases and the rationality of design based on actual teaching scenes.
