Narratology Analysis Of The COVID-19 Pandemic Feature In Southern Weekend

Chinese media’s coverage of the novel COVID-19 pandemic is a practice of news discourse with Chinese characteristics.As a media that is good at feature articles,Southern Weekend’s combined feature articles,with the value orientation of paying attention to the lives of ordinary people,highlight the "people-centered" media orientation and feature stories,which is an important practice of Chinese news discourse.It is of great value to the research of disaster news report and crisis communication in China.This study takes the feature articles(129 in total)of Southern Weekend during the COVID-19 outbreak from January to May 2020 as the research object,and studies them quantitatively and qualitatively from the perspective of news narratology theory,to explore the new features of Chinese feature news in the crisis discourse system,and to promote the theory and practice of news narratology in the field of feature articles.The findings are as follows:in terms of narrative subjects,the feature "Epidemic"highlights the integrity and functionality of narrative subjects,uses diversified narrative subjects,enhances the audience’s sense of inclusion and participation,and enhances the credibility of the feature text.In the aspect of narrative discourse,the text focuses on expressing people’s life of the epidemic from the perspective of ordinary people,simplifying the level of discourse,giving the language civilian characteristics,and enhancing the intimacy of the text expression.In terms of the spatial and temporal structure of the narrative,the special article "Epidemic" strives to present a three-dimensional narrative space.Multi-level flashbacks and skillful omissions not only show the change of time,but also strengthen the theme in multiple directions.The perspective dimension and scene transformation highlight the focusing function of the perspective and enrich the spatial expression techniques;In terms of narrative reception,"Epidemic" features pay attention to the acceptance status of implied readers in the text,especially the semantic stratification awakens the understanding process of the audience,and builds a "bridge" between implied readers and real readers.When the content reaches the real readers,it forms a feedback loop in the semantic interaction,transmitting and even sublimating the original meaning of the text completely.
