The rapid growth of academic literature makes it difficult for researchers to quickly grasp the research trends in the field.Clarifying the development of discipline fields can help scholars grasp the hot spots,improve the quality of research,and have vital significance in revealing the laws of the discipline and facilitating the progress of discipline construction.Most of the existing studies on the evolution of discipline fields are based on themes and keywords,and three are few studies on the evolution of discipline fields from the perspective of problem and method knowledge elements.Therefore,this study analyzes the development dynamics of discipline knowledge at a fine-grained level based on the extraction of problem and method knowledge elements.Academic research generally takes question proposing as the research starting point,and designs specific methods to solve the proposed questions.Thus,research questions and research methods are the core knowledge elements in the discipline fields.By delving into new problems,absorbing new methods,exploring the combination of problems and methods,researchers can contribute to the development and deepening of discipline fields and promote the diversified progress of disciplines.Therefore,it is of pivotal significance to investigate the iteration rate of research problems,research methods,and their combinations in the discipline fields,distinguish traditional knowledge from emerging knowledge,grasp research hot spots,and forecast the development trends of knowledge.This study extracts problem and method knowledge elements based on the designed rules,and uses a self-coded program in Python to realize the co-occurrence of problem and method knowledge elements in the discipline fields.Furthermore,this study analyzes the evolution dynamics of problem knowledge elements,method knowledge elements,and their combination.The specific work is as follows.(1)Put forward questions.Through literature research,this paper analyzes the domestic and foreign research status of knowledge element extraction methods and knowledge evolution.After the comparative analysis of different knowledge element extraction methods,this study selects the rule-based extraction method to extract problem and method knowledge elements,and constructs the research structure and research process based on problem knowledge elements,method knowledge elements,and their combination,so as to analyze the knowledge evolution dynamics of discipline fields.(2)Data acquisition and processing.Using the CNKI,this study obtains the abstracts and time data of some core journals of library science in recent 10 years,and extracts the abstracts in different time periods by employing Bicomb and SATI3.2 tools.Through data pre-processing,this study formulates the rules for extracting problem knowledge elements and method knowledge elements,respectively.(3)Knowledge element extraction.According to the established extraction rules,this study extracts the problem and method knowledge elements.Meanwhile,it constructs the problem and method knowledge element bases through manual processing such as screening and denoising.The related literature in the field of library science in China from 2012 to 2021 is divided into 10 literature samples in a period of two years.Taking the problem and method knowledge element bases as dictionaries respectively,the problem and method knowledge elements are extracted from the literature abstracts in different time periods by using LDA theme mode.Moreover,the co-occurrence relationship between problem knowledge element and method knowledge element in the discipline field is examined by utilizing a self-coded program in Python.(4)Empirical study.Taking the field of librarianship as an example,we construct a problem and method knowledge element database for the field of librarianship,extract the problem and method knowledge elements of this research field,and then analyze the evolutionary dynamics of their problem and method knowledge elements and their combinations.Based on the problem knowledge elements,method knowledge elements,and the combination of “Problem-Method”,this study puts forward a fine-grained analysis method to study the knowledge evolution in discipline fields,which can help researchers quickly grasp the research situation in discipline fields,find out suitable research problems and research methods to carry out academic research,and ensure the frontier and objectivity of academic research.
