Abstract/Summary:
This paper focuses on the development and change of rural society under the perspective of new media.Taking the WeChat group of D state-run Farm in Inner Mongolia as an example, this article adopts the network ethnography and the interview method, taking the WeChat group embedded in the rural society as the analytical perspective, and examining the "embedding","integration" and"reshaping" of the rural society through the details of daily life.Starting from grassroots governance, community consciousness, economic behavior, interpersonal communication and other aspects, the connection between WeChat groups,a new network public space and rural society,is deeply explored. The study found that the WeChat group enables villagers to achieve "common presence" across time and space and shapes a virtual acquaintance society. The WeChat group has become a bridge to build the social connection of villagers,a field to construct the rural community consciousness, and a social basis to improve the efficiency of grassroots governance. The research provides new cases for the media of remote rural areas and puts forward new ideas for the discussion of rural order.
