Mode,Situations And Experience: Study Of "Playback Speed Control" In Audiovisual Information Exposure

Digital media provide rich information,bring heavy burden to information selection,which make exposure behavior more complicated.This is particularly evident when exposure to audiovisual information that presents closed,ephemeral feature.Exploring this complex behavior facilitates the understanding of the current information user and media environment.So this study takes "playback speed control" with high incidence and attention as a case,and explores the mode,actual situations and experience of this behavior through in-depth interviews with 40 users,with a view to understanding this kind of audiovisual information exposure behavior.This study proposes that the "playback speed control" practice is a modified exposure to audiovisual information,with two orientations of presentation selection and participation.The selection modes include condensed approach and experiential avoidance.They have the opposite intention of choosing information,but their measures are to speed up.Participation mode is slow mining that has the function of emphasizing and amplifying the content.Through hybrid temporality,different modes are combined to realize the on-demand transformation of information.Mobility and small screens have created a personalized spatial situation,and the daily and ideally pursuit of efficient has created an efficient temporal situation,which has led to speed control behavior,thus shaping the routinized technological situation at the material and cognitive levels and further generalizing and deepening speed control behavior.The user’s experience shows a duality trend.On the one hand,this behavior brings information personalization,enrichment of experiences,and resolution of anxiety;on the other hand,negative experiences such as information flattening,lack of memory,and regeneration of anxiety also come along with it.The proposal of modified exposure may improve the cognition of the current information exposure mode,and study also reveals the users’ pursuit of personalization and efficiency for information exposure.
