| For a long time, trade in goods has been the main supporting force for the economic development of a country or region and occupies an important position in international trade. However, with the shift of the focus of world economic development, traditional competitive advantages are gradually weakened, and trade in services is gradually becoming the main driving force to promote the development of international trade, and is gradually transitioning to the new service trade which is knowledge and technology intensive.Specifically,China’s export volume of emerging service trade in 2020 reached 164.34 billion yuan, accounting for 69.9% of the total export volume of service trade, showing a rapid growth trend.However,in-depth analysis shows that although the scale of emerging service trade is expanding year by year, there is a problem of insufficient international competitiveness. The further development of information and communication technologies has profoundly changed the way people communicate, work and live, providing new growth drivers for a country’s sustainable economic development and new opportunities for the development of emerging trade in services. In this context,it is more significant to study the influence of ICT development level on the international competitiveness of emerging services trade.First of all, this paper discusses the influence mechanism between the development level of ICT and the international competitiveness of emerging service trade. The research finds that ICT can reduce the information cost, institutional cost and market cost in trade, and the lowering of the trade threshold encourages more enterprises to participate in the trade process, which increases the export volume of emerging service trade. Finally,it promotes the international competitiveness of emerging service trade. In addition,ICTs promote the exchange of innovative knowledge, enhance the innovation ability of export market subjects, increase the added value of services, promote the online factor platform, break through traditional constraints, and enhance the tradability of emerging services through the technological spillover effect generated by the improvement of innovation ability of export market subjects and the acceleration of the flow of innovative resources and factors. In addition,ICT enables micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and creates new forms and models of service trade,so as to enhance the diversification of market subjects and objects and enhance the overall international competitiveness.Secondly, this paper adopts the IDI calculation framework of the International Telecommunication Union, selects 8 representative indicators, calculates the ICT development level of 37 countries during 2010-2019,and divides them into developed countries and developing countries for comparison according to the classification standard of the International Monetary Fund. Then,RCA index,MS index and TC index were used to calculate the international competitiveness of 37 countries’ emerging service trade.Meanwhile, entropy method was used to construct a comprehensive evaluation index to calculate the comprehensive competitiveness of each country, and the comparison was made by different industries.Thirdly, this paper establishes a two-way fixed-effect model, and adopts the panel data of 37 countries from 2010 to 2019 to carry out full-sample regression and sub-sample regression respectively from the overall, national and industrial levels of emerging service trade, and analyzes the robustness of the model. It is found that the level of ICT development has a significant positive effect on the international competitiveness of emerging services trade, but there is heterogeneity at the national and industrial levels.Regression results at the country level show that the level of ICT development is more significant in promoting the role of developing countries.Industry-level regression results show that ICT development level has no significant impact on insurance and pension and construction industries, but has a positive impact on other emerging service industries. Finally, this paper summarizes the conclusions of this study, and puts forward some suggestions to improve the international competitiveness of emerging service trade from two aspects: accelerating the construction of information communication infrastructure and enhancing the openness of emerging service trade. |
