With the advent of the era of digital intelligence and the high-speed development of artificial intelligence,big data and machine learning technologies,the profession of artificial intelligence data annotator has been created.Data annotation refers to the human processing of data classification,labeling,annotation,etc.,in order to allow machine algorithms to recognize and learn.This paper thus focuses on artificial intelligence data annotators,an emerging profession born from new technologies,and use network ethnography,in-depth interviews,and fieldwork methods to explore the“labor entry” and “labor presence”of artificial intelligence data annotators in full-time employment.In this study,the researcher investigates the control mode and human-computer coupling mechanism in data training of AI data annotators in full-time employment,to portray the labor situation of the data annotators in the digital and intelligent age.First of all,from the perspective of the mediated network control of labor market entry and labor process control theory,the mediated network control chain binds the data annotator to the “entry” link of data production.Due to the special nature of data,a new process of reintermediation of labor networks is formed.At the same time,data labeling companies and labeling platforms use various control methods to control the labor process of data annotators,mainly through the organization and management of the labeling labor in the poor order of division of labor and decentralized conflict,the combination between relations of production and relations in production,the management of labor space,labor time training,technical means,the setting of the data unit price settlement system,the shape of the work culture as the main way to make the data annotators.The main approach is to train the data annotators to become a qualified one.Second,from the perspective of data training and human-computer coupling,there is a collaborative relationship between the data annotator and the trained data and the algorithm behind it.The data annotator needs to understand and cognitively learn the annotation interpretations,which are the catalyst to connect the data annotator with the required annotated data.After learning the cognitive rules,the data annotator interacts with the annotated data and the algorithm behind it,and this process is divided into two relationship states:human-machine matching and human-machine gaming.At the same time,the labor of the data annotator is influenced by two different system rules: the “invisible hand”and the “visible hand”.Based on the study of the labor control and human-machine coupling mechanisms of data annotators,the researcher examine the labor condition of AI data annotators in China,paying more attention to the AI annotators from a broader perspective,and tabling some proposals on their labor value productions and labor insurances based on humanistic concerns.
