Through the development of infrastructure and application in Internet, big data and artificial intelligence technologies,China has gradually entered into a digital society, and the breadth and depth of digital information technology and its applications are increasingly enhanced and penetrate into all aspects of society.Digital technology has improved the development level and production efficiency of the industry and facilitated people’s daily life, but the digital telling development has also inevitably formed some problems in some areas.Data from the seventh national census shows that Chinese aged 60 and above is about 260 million, accounting for 18.7% of total population, and is moving into a deeply aging population society.Population aging has already caused a huge impact on the harmony and stability of society and economic development, and is an important social issue in China at present. At the same time, the rapid spread of digital technology has brought a huge impact on the daily life of the elderly, resulting in many people in this group not only being unable to obtain the convenient services provided by digital technology, but also encountering many embarrassments and dilemmas stemming from digitalization, namely, the continued "newness" of digital technology products and the rapid change of population structure. The problem of "digital divide" arising from the "old".The digital divide problem is universal and serious in China, and it is urgent to make a study on the countermeasures for its solution. The essence of the digital divide problem is the contradiction between the black box operation mechanism of digital products and the lack of cognitive ability of the elderly.A large number of mobile Internet smart devices in the market ignore the existence of this contradiction at the beginning of their design, resulting in digital products and services that work well with young users but are poorly experienced or even unacceptable to the elderly. To address the digital divide problem, this study takes the mental model as the overall research and analysis idea, and proposes corresponding design strategies and specific solutions by analyzing cases and combining existing design theoretical principles, such as the ten usability principles in interaction design of Nielsen.According to this idea, the research content is briefly described as follows:Firstly,a review of domestic and foreign theories and practices on user experience and mental model was conducted to prepare the theoretical basis and research methods required for the study;secondly,SHERPA method was applied to analyze the target task of mobile application software in a hierarchical manner to extract the error points that occur in the target task for older users. Then,we deconstructed and analyzed the error steps of older users with the framework of mental model analysis, and proposed the optimization and design strategy of aging-appropriate user experience;then, based on the above analysis,we optimized the design of aging-appropriate user experience for the mobile internet application software used in daily high frequency;finally,we evaluated the solution with experimental methods, and compared the aging-appropriate user experience from five dimensions: satisfaction, perceptibility, operability, comprehensibility, and safety. The results showed that the aging solution improved the satisfaction, perceptibility, operability, understandability and usability of the software in the minimalist and explorer groups, and there were significant differences. In contrast, there was no significant difference between the minimalist and explorer groups in terms of security enhancement of the software. Therefore, the analysis and design method based on the mental model enhances the age-appropriateness of the smartphone mobile application software, and has some design practice significance for optimizing the user experience of products or services for the elderly in the digital age.
