| Eastern Miscellany was founded in 1904 and finally published in 1948.It is the longest circulating and most influential comprehensive public journal in modern China.Since its inception,Eastern Miscellany has been reporting on the development issues of various fields in modern China with an open,inclusive,rational,and rigorous attitude.It has also provided comprehensive,objective,and profound reports on children’s issues in China and other countries around the world,fulfilling its publication purpose of "enlightening the people and connecting with East Asia".This article takes the modern children’s issues report of Eastern Miscellany as the research theme,and the specific content of the study involves many aspects such as health,education,social activities,etc.Eastern Miscellany has experienced several editors in chief,such as Xu Ke,Meng Sen,Du Yaquan,Qian Zhixiu,Wang Yunwu,etc.During its founding,many important events occurred in modern history.Through research,it was found that the theme and content of Eastern Miscellany’s reports on modern children’s issues were significantly different before and after the "May Fourth Movement",Therefore,the author divides the reports on children’s issues in Eastern Miscellany into two periods from the end of the Qing Dynasty to the "May Fourth Movement" and from the "May Fourth Movement" to the final issue.In addition to article reporting,research was also conducted on children’s related advertisements in Eastern Miscellany,including children’s book advertisements and commercial advertisements.The attention paid by Eastern Miscellany to issues such as the popularization of children’s physiological knowledge,children’s physical and mental development,children’s education issues,children’s social activities,and foreign experiences in children’s issues presents us with the evolution and changes of modern Chinese children’s ideological concepts.In addition,Eastern Miscellany closely reports on the situation of children both domestically and internationally,calling for the awakening of children’s awareness throughout society and breaking free from the shackles of old feudal society ideas.This not only promoted the dissemination of the "child centered" ideology in China,but also to some extent promoted the liberation of modern children. |
