| Currently, visual images have become an essential symbolic medium and vehicle of expression in communication practice.Images and texts are important because they are the definition and perception of various phenomena in contemporary society. As a mediator and media form for the visual reproduction, mapping and processing of policies, fertility class posters condense the themes and connotations of family planning topics at different stages, providing viewers with a visual map for viewing real life. From the symbolisation to the visualisation of images, the pictorial representation of posters has become a heterogeneous research sample in the history of images, based on its unique narrative perspective and mode of communication. On the one hand, fertility policies are mediated through posters, which broaden the traditional definition of ’things’ dominated by instrumental thinking;on the other hand, visual texts such as posters focus on social images such as collective life, new families and social customs, linking a set of visual cultural landscapes that point to the present and the future. This study takes the introduction and implementation of family planning policy as the background, and takes family planning posters as the object of study, selecting family planning promotional images from 1982 to 2021,using image analysis and textual analysis to analyse the images in terms of "resemblance" "indication" and "statute".The study is a detailed discussion of three aspects: "resemblance" "indication" and "statute".On the basis of the pictorial analysis of the family planning propaganda paintings, the information composition and symbolic characteristics of the visual images are studied, and the pictorial analysis is shifted to the questioning of meaning, exploring how the family planning propaganda paintings use stylized symbols and visual messages to interact with historical contexts, social customs and cultural fields, thereby revealing the production of meaning in the context of the times. In this sense, historical contexts, social customs and cultural arenas are closely related to family planning, and the image transmutation of the posters has a subtle impact on each individual through visual symbols such as images and texts, ultimately becoming a metaphorical social practice towards the universal construction of social order. The first chapter focuses on the following three issues: defining the object of study, sorting out the background of the study, and clarifying the research theory,on the basis of which the entire article is clarified. The second chapter elaborates on the historical context and development of the object of study, based on where the posters come from, what they are and what they do.The third chapter analyses the correlation between the policy and the pictures, and explores whether the family planning posters fit in with the development of population and economic and social development-eugenics,changing customs-the development of the policy for the benefit of the nation and the people and the family,in order to answer the question of visual metaphor theory This is to answer the question of "likeness",i.e.whether family planning posters are "something that replaces something else".Chapter 4is based on Qiao Li’s method of image analysis, using stylistic, portrait and linguistic symbols as research tools to explain the colour, form, composition, pattern and text of the images, and to reveal the relationship between pictorial expression and indication in family planning posters. In Chapter 5,based on the evolution of "resemblance" and "indication" in the previous two chapters, the author falls into the universal third nature of the statute relationship, trying to convey the "meaning" of the image. In this chapter, the author turns the analysis of images to an inquiry into processes, ideas and meanings, revealing the logic of the interaction between family planning posters and history, society and culture. The study finds that, firstly, the changing times of family planning posters are closely linked to national policies and political stances. As a type of political posters, the production and dissemination of family planning posters are influenced by historical and traditional factors, closely matching the forms and changes of reality and reflecting the will and macro policies of the state.Secondly, the visual production of family planning posters is based on the ’similarity’ between the referent and the reference. The vividly coloured and imaginative posters act on the public’s viewing system through stylistic, portrait and linguistic symbols, establishing specific indicative relationships in people’s cognitive structure.Thirdly, the meaning generation of family planning posters is based on the historical context, social style and cultural field of a specific era, from identity change to bodily transformation, from political symbols to daily life, from visual associations to visual cognition, family planning posters store and build a storehouse of pictorial knowledge, uniting public consensus and practical experience, and becoming a realistic portrayal of the fertility scene. |
