The commercialization of the 5G communication system has been progressively expanding with the development of next generation mobile communication technology in China. In order to fulfill the demands of more innovative applications in the Internet of Things, video transmission, the smart home, and other relevant industries,5G base station antenna has new requirements for an-tenna system research and development. The size, spacing, and number of antenna dipoles required by the 5G base station antenna are greater, which is advantageous for enhancing the performance of the communication system. In this paper, the miniaturization and broadband of base station antenna are investigated based on the theory of dual-polarized antenna.First, the history of development, importance, and present state of the base station antenna are examined.Second,a succinct summary of the pertinent fundamental theory, characteristic parameters, and operation of the base station antenna is given. The next step is the development of two dual-polarized base station antenna units working at690-960 MHz and 1710-2690 MHz,respectively. The high-frequency and low-frequency antenna unit arrangement is then designed. The primary study is described as follows:(1)A device for low-frequency radiation is created. The antenna is made up of a metal reflector,a couple of crossed feed structures, and a radiation patch fixed to the dielectric substrate. The feed construction of the antenna uses two deformed Type A feeds to guarantee port isolation. The final low-frequency unit must have a frequency range of 690-960 MHz,gain greater than 8.6 dBi within the bandwidth,25 dB of port isolation,a cross-polarization ratio greater than 18 dB in the maximum radiation direction,a front-to-back ratio greater than 22 dB,and a half-power beam width between 52°and 70°.Basically satisfy the antenna design requirements of the current 3G/4G/5G mobile communication system.(2)A device for high-frequency radiation is created.Three components make up the antenna unit’s primary structure: a cylinder-shaped metal reflector, two pairs of 45-degree dipole antennas, two crossed coaxial feeders, and two pairs of crossed coaxial feeders. The antenna unit has a frequency range of 1710 MHz to 2690 MHz and has higher than 25 dB isolation between its two ends. The front to back ratio is greater than 22 dB,the cross polarization ratio in the antenna’s maximum radiation direction is greater than 17 dB,and the gain is greater than8.5dBi in the antenna’s working frequency band. The half-power beam width is stable between59 and 72 degrees. Each antenna’s radiation characteristics satisfies the initial criteria for antenna design.(3)Chapters 3 and 4’s high-and low-frequency antennas were condensed, and Chapter 5’s base station antenna array, which incorporated both a low-frequency dipole(690-960 MHz)and high-frequency dipole, was created(1710-2690 MHz).The size of the antenna array is further decreased by improving the metal reflector and parasitic decoupling layer.Due to the dual frequency band coverage, the isolation between neighboring ports is greater than 30 dB,and the antenna’s half-power beam width is comparatively stable.
