As a new audio-visual communication mode emerging with the development of mobile Internet, short video brings new opportunities for the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the effective use of short video can make the coverage of science popularization wider and the efficiency of acquisition higher. The mode of "science communication + short video" will be a new science popularization way to promote knowledge dissemination and enhance citizens’ scientific literacy. At present, the national demand for mental health knowledge is large, and the mental health problems of young people need to be alleviated.Short videos increase the way for users to obtain psychological science knowledge, and help people get mental health information in daily life to understand their own mental health and timely detection and adjustment. However,as a new form of communication, the rapid development of short videos has also revealed many problems, bringing negative effects such as the reduction of the audience’s thinking ability, which greatly affects the utility of users’ access to mental health information. Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the process experience of users using short video platforms to obtain mental health information and its utility,to understand users’ needs for mental health information,to improve users’ satisfaction with related science videos, and to improve the utilization rate of mental health information obtained by users from videos. This study adopts a "qualitative+quantitative" research strategy.Interviews and questionnaires were conducted with college student users of Bilibili as the research subjects.First, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, and the original textual material was coded at three levels of grounded theory to construct a preliminary conceptual model of the information utility and its influencing factors of short video of mental health science popularization from the perspective of user experience.Secondly, combining the interview results and related literature, the research hypothesis was proposed, the questionnaire was designed, and after the questionnaire was revised and optimized by the pre-research,the official questionnaire was finally distributed and 399 valid questionnaires were collected, and the data were processed using analysis of variance, correlation analysis and regression analysis to verify the hypothesis and explain the relationship between variables. The findings and conclusions are as follows:(1)The user experience of college users watching short videos of mental health science popularization on Bilibili mainly shows that the user perception experience is good, the platform function is relatively perfect, positive emotional experience is dominant, and some mental health states affect the user experience.(2)The overall mental health information utility of users is good.Users indicated that they had gained mental health-related knowledge through watching the relevant short videos, and their mental health knowledge network had been improved and expanded, and they were able to use the information gained in the videos to make appropriate physical adjustments, and their mental health problems were partially solved.(3)The information utility of users from different backgrounds is almost consistent.College students of different genders, different education levels, different disciplines and different years of using Bilibili do not have significant differences in the information utility of watching mental health science popularization short videos, and Bilibili’s mental health science popularization short videos generally meet the standard of superficial and easy to understand required for science popularization videos, and achieve the effect of socialization and popularization.(4)Mental health status affects the utility of users’ access to information. The information utility of the videos watched by college students with different mental health states is significantly different, and the information utility obtained by users with "mental health state" is significant ly better than that of users with "mental subhealth state",and negative emotions affect users’ information inquiries and their awareness, evaluation and utilization of the obtained mental health information.(5)The correlation between perceptual experience and information utility is high.Perceptual experience, functional experience and emotional experience are significantly correlated with each other and with information utility, and the correlation coefficient between perceptual experience and functional experience is the highest among the three types of user experience.(6)Emotional experience partially mediates the information utility.Different perceptual experiences or functional experiences make their emotional experiences change to different degrees;the video format of the short mental health science videos affects users’ emotional experiences and can further influence their mental health information utility. Finally, based on the findings and conclusions, this study recommends that users make full use of bilibili videos to obtain mental health information, which can prevent and solve mental health problems to a certain extent, while maintaining moderate arousal when obtaining it to maximize the utility of information acquisition. It is recommended that the platform provide more high-quality and easy-to-understand popular science short videos on mental health, and further optimize the platform search function to improve the level of user experience.
