Left-behind children are the product of China’s urban-rural dual economic system, and this group is particularly special. However, the separation of left-behind children from their parents and the individualization of the family make the maintenance of parent-child relationship face challenges.Left-behind children need to talk and express themselves,so parents can only rely on Internet media to communicate with left-behind children remotely to create physical presence.Internet media temporarily breaks the distance between time and space and becomes a new channel to expand parent-child interaction.Remote communication among families of left-behind children is characterized by long-term discontinuity in time, distance in space, indirect communication and low interaction frequency. Therefore, remote communication among families of left-behind children and maintenance of parent-child relationship are urgent problems to be discussed and solved at present.Based on the background of the continuous development of network media technology, this study attempts to discuss the specific remote communication process of left-behind children families under the bridge built by media, and summarize the factors that affect the remote communication of left-behind children families,so as to understand the role of network media in linking parent-child relationship. It is found that left-behind children have a choice in the process of long-distance communication with their parents in cities. They can independently choose the way, content, time and frequency of communication with their parents, presenting new characteristics different from traditional media. These new characteristics improve the quality of communication between left-behind children and their parents in cities, and enrich their forms of communication.Nowadays, there are more and more diversified factors affecting the remote communication between left-behind children and their separated parents, including network technology and parent-child relationship.Parent-child communication affects parent-child relationship, and Internet media also affects parent-child communication. Therefore,on the basis of strengthened parent-child communication, the parent-child relationship also gets the continuation of media.Internet media brings new hope to the families of left-behind children and becomes a tool for parents to continue to perform their parental duties remotely. The realization of material supply and emotional support through network media is also a new way to make up for feelings, which greatly promotes the development of parent-child relationship.Although network media has shown great potential in bridging parent-child relationship,it still has insurmountable disadvantages, the most prominent of which is the inability to achieve physical contact and the gap in media literacy between two generations will cause obstacles in media understanding. Therefore, although network media has temporarily broken the limit of distance and realized the connection between left-behind children and their parents,at present,There is still no substitute for offline face-to-face communication. In short, the discussion on the specific process of long-distance communication between left-behind children and their parents in cities in the digital age and the maintenance of parent-child relationship are of far-reaching significance to the society, and can provide unique ideas for solving the problems of left-behind children families.
