| Common prosperity is a major theme of media coverage in China.With the completion of China’s first 100-year goal of building a moderately prosperous society,the achievement of common prosperity for all people has been placed in a more important position by the Party and the State.Xi Jinping pointed out that by the middle of this century,common prosperity for all people will be basically achieved,and the gap between residents’ income and actual consumption level will be narrowed to a reasonable range.However,erroneous statements such as "egalitarianism" and "killing the rich to help the poor" have begun to appear in society.Therefore,a study on the coverage of common prosperity can help the news media to guide the people of China to correctly understand the connotation of common prosperity,grasp the strategic goal and practical ways to achieve common prosperity,so as to concentrate and strengthen the confidence of the people of China to achieve common prosperity,and create a good public opinion environment for the solid promotion of common prosperity.However,there is still a lack of in-depth and systematic discussion in the field of news communication on the coverage of common prosperity.Therefore,how the mainstream media,represented by the People’s Daily,can construct the issue of common prosperity in order to realise the mission of the party newspaper in guiding public opinion is a research topic of great practical significance nowadays.This study takes the reports of People’s Daily on the topic of common prosperity from 1953 to 2022 as the object of study.The author also explores the discursive strategies of the People’s Daily on the issue of common prosperity,so as to discover the role of the People’s Daily in the narrative and representation of the reported discourse,and to sort out the political,economic,social and cultural logical factors that exist in the social practice of the common prosperity discourse.Through the research,the author found that the reporting discourse of People’s Daily on common prosperity presents the following characteristics:(1)from the textual direction analysis,the first stage has a small number of reports,the theme of the report calls for collectivization,the vocabulary is used to shape the political identity of socialist superiority,and the rhetoric is used to increase the persuasiveness of the news;the second stage has a small number of reports,and the theme shows a trend of diversification.The number of reports in the third stage has climbed since 2021,the horizon of the reports is international,the vocabulary emphasizes highlighting the fundamental interests of the broadest number of people,and the rhetoric is used to increase the credibility of the news.(2)In terms of discursive practices,all three stages of the People’s Daily are dominated by self-collected news,with few reprinted stories,and even when they are reprinted,most of them come from the national media Xinhua.In terms of the use of sources,the first stage used verbal reactions to praise the co-operatives,the second stage used authoritative discourse to make commitments to the common wealth,and the third stage used international discourse to innovate the discourse system of common wealth communication.(3)In terms of social practice,the historical context,national policies and news culture at different stages all play a role in reporting on the common wealth,influencing its reporting characteristics and generating discursive changes.The main innovation of this study lies in the new perspective of the study.There are few studies on the reports of common wealth in the field of journalism and communication,and there are no systematic studies on the issue of common wealth from the perspective of discourse analysis.Secondly,this study collects and studies the reports on common prosperity in People’s Daily from 1953 to 2022,and the first-hand data obtained can provide reference for media reports and public opinion guidance,and provide a material basis for further studies in the future. |
