With the increasing gap between processor and memory technology,the problem of memory access power wall is becoming more and more prominent.Industry and academia began to shift the research focus from computing to storage.In the research of PIM,many researchers use HBM as the storage for PIM research.However,there is no specialized PIM simulator based on HBM for researchers to use.Researchers need to spend more time to develop PIM simulation tools by themselves.At the same time,some PIM paper based on HBM do not consider whether the designed HBM structure can be produced by the industry.To solve these problems,this paper designs and develops a PIM simulator framework pimsim based on the latest pim-hbm and the PIM technology principle based on PIM-HBM,which includes a PIM simulator PIM-HBMSim,a processor simulator PESim and a crossbar simulator Crossbar Sim,The main work is as follows:· PIM-HBMSim Simulator: Design and develop the PIM-HBMSim simulator. The PIM-HBMSim takes the ramulator simulator as the prototype,adds support for the HBM2 standard,and models HBM-PIM technology which taken by the indus- try,providing a memory simulator with a commercial prototype for the research of PIM based on HBM.The paper explores the HBM-PIM technology in two aspects: 1)It is found that setting the maximum activation times to 16 in a certain time in the pseudo channel mode is enough to achieve the best performance.2)Compared with the original HBM-PIM architecture design,when FPU can read two banks at the same time,the performance can be improved by 40%.· PIMSim Simulator Framework: Design and develop the Pim Sim simulator. Pim Sim is mainly composed of core simulator PESim,crossbar simulator Cross- bar Sim and PIM-HBMSim,which can provide effective research tools for PIM re- search based on HBM.Experiments with pimsim simulation framework show that HBM-PIM can improve the performance of programs with good parallelism,with an average speedup of 63%,which preliminarily verifies the advantages of HBM- PIM technology.
