| The long-term vitality of television series is an important indicator of their popularity. The significance of classic Chinese series has far exceeded their pure entertainment value and become cultural treasures in people’s hearts, maintaining an irreplaceable position even after being ravaged by time. The generation of "television drama children" who grew up alongside the booming television industry have now matured and been forced into the competitive, efficient, and fast-paced modern society. In this uncertain environment, various pressures seem to be producing a widespread modern anxiety. The overall sense of unease makes it difficult to maintain the necessary space for emotional communication, and the anxiety pervades.Young people urgently need to seek a remedy to relieve their over-tensioned nerves, relying on a cultural work that can be with them for a long time and is a reliable outlet for emotions. The classic old series from the past have become the medicine for modern young people, and they use this method to combat the social acceleration and alleviate anxiety. In this article,we used online ethnography, textual analysis, and in-depth interviews to study the phenomenon of young people’s love for re-watching old series, systematically sorting out their participation practices, focusing on their practical behavior, psychological characteristics, and conveyed emotional representation when participating in revisiting classic TV series. From the theoretical perspective of structure of feeling and fan culture,we conducted a media text analysis of the subcultural practices based on the content of old series, discussed the memory content writing and emotional expression carried by this phenomenon, and analyzed the practical logic, emotional motivation, and cultural mechanism behind young people’s enthusiasm for old series.Starting from the media practices of old drama fans, the author finds that this subcultural phenomenon inherently carries a cultural trajectory of self-transmission and reproduction, representing the attitudes and thoughts of young people towards contemporary society and culture. It is a recognizable symbol and way for group entertainment, sharing, loneliness, anxiety, and other negative emotions. The current enthusiasm of young people for old drama images is no longer simply the expression of personal emotions and memories, but a way of constructing a special identity between individuals and groups. They emphasize individual independence and subjectivity, reject the norms and standards of current entertainment culture, and create fragmented and dispersed subcultural practices through constant transformation and innovation on media platforms. In this process, old series become a new choice and way of emotional expression, with a metaphorical aesthetic redemption discourse. This is not only an exploration and expression of individual independence and subjectivity but also a mild resistance and avoidance of the homogenization and commercialization of current entertainment culture.Young people are an important force in social change and cultural innovation.Their emotional expression and cultural identity influence their own identity construction and social awareness, exerting an important impact on the cultural values and aesthetic tastes of the whole society. |
