| In the context of the era of individualization,with the acceleration of urbanization and the popularization of higher education,more and more highly educated young people have left their homes and choose to work in large cities.Living alone has become their living condition.As a specific mobile group,empty-nest youth have formed a large scale in the new stage of social development,and their practical difficulties in urban integration have aroused widespread concern from all sectors of society.This paper investigates the work,life and emotional status of empty nest youth and the status quo of social media use through questionnaires and in-depth interviews,explores the use of social media of empty nest youth and its impact on urban integration from the perspective of communication science,and puts forward optimization suggestions from the perspective of media communication.This study takes the empty nest youth in Wuhan as an investigation case,starting from the media system dependence theory and the ERG demand theory,uses the quantitative and qualitative research methods to conduct empirical analysis.The study found that the use of social media by empty nest youth in Wuhan: first,the use intensity is relatively high,the media survival becomes normal,the epidemic situation further increases the use time,and the overall digital participation is high;Second,the type of social media use prefers instant messaging,the use of content prefers social and entertainment,and local information focuses on clothing,food,housing and transportation,and leisure and entertainment;Third,social media use is motivated by interpersonal communication and has a strong sense of "instrumentality";Fourth,they have general trust in social media content,but strong dependence on its use.Social media is like a double-edged sword,which has a double-sided impact on the urban integration of empty nest youth in the dimensions of economic life,social interaction,psychological perception and identity.On the one hand,the use of social media can help optimize the experience of empty-nest youth renting houses,increase local employment opportunities,innovate income methods,improve human capital,and promote their integration into local consumption life;Social media can also help maintain strong relationships,expand weak relationships,develop new local social relationships,and to some extent help empty nest youth accumulate social capital;Social media can also promote empty nest youth to relieve mental stress and negative emotions,increase their awareness of the city and thus enhance their psychological affiliation;At the same time,media empowerment also helps to realize the new role orientation and promote the adjustment and reconstruction of the local identity of empty nest youth.On the other hand,the digital discipline objectively created by social media will increase the work pressure of empty-nest youth to some extent;Moreover,social media is easy to breed interpersonal foam,and improper use may aggravate group loneliness;And the network public opinion information is very mixed,which may affect the city identity of empty nest youth imperceptibly;In addition,the contradiction between multiple virtual identities and real self-identity may lead to identity identity crisis.In order to give full play to the dominant role of social media,the government,society and individuals should pay attention to it,use the media to construct urban identity,display an open and inclusive urban mentality,and promote the construction of identity of empty nest youth;Strengthen the supervision and guidance of media content,build a media-friendly environment,and effectively play its role in social integration;Rely on media technology to help build smart cities,actively meet the diverse needs of empty nest youth,and strive to promote the transformation from "empty nest youth" to "nesting youth". |
