The rapid development of information technology, the increasingly complex and diverse needs of customers, and the increasingly fierce competition in the market have caused enterprises to face more uncertainty and increasing pressure for survival and development.Besides,China’s economy is in a critical period of transition from highspeed development to high-quality development. As innovation is the first productive force,it has become an inevitable choice for many enterprises to cope with competition. And effectively improving innovation performance has also become an urgent need for enterprises to break through the survival dilemma. The innovation performance depends on the degree of synergy between market and technology, which mainly relies on knowledge management to achieve. Therefore, knowledge management has been attracting much attention as an important breakthrough for technological innovation. However, most of the existing studies on knowledge management and innovation performance are based on a static perspective, focusing on the impact of a certain stage of knowledge management on innovation performance. And there is relatively little literature that systematically analyses the impact of different development stages of knowledge management on innovation performance. In addition,as an open system, enterprises need to constantly interact with information from the external environment. As a result, the environment has been regarded as an important factor affecting innovation activities. When carrying out innovation activities, firms base their activities on dynamically changing environmental conditions to ensure the alignment between innovation objectives and environmental developments, and thus achieve high levels of innovation performance. Many scholars have recognized that dynamic changes in the environment can have an impact on innovation performance. However, the complexity and ambiguity of the environment have led to insufficient research attention to delve into the moderating role of its different characteristics in the relationship between knowledge management capabilities and innovation performance. With the above analysis, this study firstly systematically integrated dynamic capability theory and knowledge management theory, and constructed a conceptual model of dynamic knowledge management capability. The model includes three elements such as knowledge absorption, knowledge transformation and knowledge application. After that, this study reviewed and sorted out the relevant researches on key variables such as innovation performance and environmental dynamics of enterprises.Based on clarifying their conceptual connotation, dimensional division and interaction relationship, this study explored the relationship between different stages of dynamic knowledge management capabilities and innovation performance respectively. At the same time, this study also revealed the moderating role of different characteristics of dynamic environment from market and technology perspectives. The corresponding research hypotheses are proposed based on the logical relationships between the variables.Subsequently,an empirical study was conducted to verify the relationship between dynamic knowledge management capabilities on innovation performance and the moderating effect of environmental dynamism.Additionally, the data was obtained from the questionnaire survey with high-tech enterprises as the research object. And the following research conclusions are as follows: First, the dimensions of dynamic knowledge management capabilities have different degrees of positive contribution to the innovation performance.Specifically, knowledge application capabilities have the strongest contribution to innovation performance, followed by knowledge transformation capabilities and knowledge absorption capabilities.Secondly, the moderating effect of environmental dynamism on the relationship between dynamic knowledge management capabilities and innovation performance is different.Among them, the moderating effect of market dynamism in the relationship between knowledge absorption capability and innovation performance is not significant;technological dynamism positively moderates the relationship between knowledge absorption capability and innovation performance.Market dynamism and technological dynamism can positively moderate the relationship between knowledge transformation capability and innovation performance, but play a negative moderating role in the relationship between knowledge application capability and innovation performance. In the end, management insights were proposed for enterprises’ reference based on the findings of the study. On the one hand, enterprises should attach importance to the construction and enhancement of dynamic knowledge management capabilities. In this process, companies can identify potentially valuable knowledge based on environmental awareness.By absorbing and expanding this knowledge into their own knowledge base and further optimizing the way it is deployed, they can help facilitate the cross-border integration of knowledge and make full use of knowledge leverage to improve innovation performance. On the other hand, enterprises are supposed to consider the choice of dynamic knowledge management capabilities according to the characteristics of the environment, and select knowledge management capabilities that match the environment. In this way, they can effectively utilize the positive effect of the dynamic nature of the environment to improve innovation performance. |
