With the continuous development of international economic integration and the deepening of economic and trade exchanges between countries, the trade cooperation between China and developed countries such as the West has been very close to saturation.Since African countries and China are both developing countries and have always maintained friendly relations politically, full economic cooperation is also essential. In addition, there are differences between my country and African countries in terms of production factor endowments, industrial structure, and product import and export structure, and trade between countries is highly complementary.Obviously,African countries have become an important focus for us to develop overseas markets. In view of this, this paper sorts out and considers the status quo of trade between China and African countries, and conducts empirical research on the influencing factors and trade potential of China’s export trade to Africa,so as to provide theoretical support and ideas for the release of China-Africa trade potential. This paper firstly analyzes the China-Africa trade pattern from two aspects:scale and structure of China-Africa trade through charts.Secondly, use trade indicators to measure the export competitiveness of Chinese products to Africa, including trade integration index, trade complementarity index, revealed advantage index and intraindustry trade index. Then, based on the panel data of China and Africa from 2008 to 2020,this paper takes 31 African countries as sample countries, constructs a stochastic frontier gravity model and introduces the trade inefficiency term,in-depth research on the factors affecting my country’s export trade to Africa, and estimates Then,we will conduct targeted discussions on African countries by region and country. Finally, draw relevant conclusions and put forward China’s policy recommendations for Africa’s export trade. This paper draws the following conclusions:First, the trade volume between China and Africa is growing, and there are some problems with the rapid development of trade. The regional development is unbalanced, mainly in North Africa and South Africa;the commodity trade structure is relatively simple, and the trade cooperation between China and Africa is easily affected by the adverse impact of the international situation.Second,China-Africa trade is highly complementary.my country’s exports to Africa are mainly industrial manufactured products, while Africa’s exports to my country are mainly primary products, and they export products with competitive advantages to each other.Third, the traditional core explanatory variables in the stochastic frontier gravity model still have a great impact on export trade.Among the trade inefficiencies,China-Africa economic cooperation, financial freedom, government spending, government anti-corruption control, government effectiveness,The soundness of the legal system can promote the improvement of trade efficiency.Fourth, the efficiency and potential of China-Africa trade are on the rise.North Africa and South Africa have relatively large advantages and are an important part of expanding China-Africa trade.Based on the research results, four policy suggestions are put forward:first, formulate and improve the free trade agreement with North Africa;Second, seek new ways of trade cooperation with South Africa;Third, strengthen trade complementarity with West Africa;Fourth, strengthen infrastructure assistance to East and Central Africa.
