| In recent years, with the rapid economic growth, the issues of enterprises not fulfilling their social responsibilities, including the lack of protection of employees’ rights and interests, waste of resources, environmental pollution and so on,have been widely concerned, thus more enterprises began to pursue the organic unity of comprehensive values in economic, social and environmental aspects.According to the upper echelon theory, managers have differences in personal characteristics, which makes managers have different value orientations, and then affect the business decisions of their enterprises. It has been found that the characteristics of the enterprise itself and the individual characteristics of the management of the enterprise affect the social responsibility of the enterprise,in which the life experience of managers has a significant impact.According to the imprint theory, for individuals, the environmental changes experienced in their early years have a significant and far-reaching impact on the formation and development of their personality characteristics.Managers’ early famine experience,as a special life experience, makes managers more risk-averse,and the business decision-making and investment and financing behavior of the enterprise more conservative,at the same time more empathepathecy, more likely to make charitable donations. The impact of managers’ early famine experience on corporate social responsibility needs further study. This paper first reviews the relevant research on managers’ famine experience and corporate social responsibility. Then, through the relevant theoretical analysis, this paper puts forward the research hypotheses. Finally, this paper selects the data of A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2006 to 2020 for regression analysis, and controls the influence of other variables at different levels..The results of this paper show that:(1)There is a positive correlation between managers’ early famine experience and corporate social responsibility.(2)Overseas background has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between managers’ early famine experience and corporate social responsibility.(3)Managers who experienced famine in their early years improved the level of corporate social responsibility after the Wenchuan earthquake. This paper studies the role mechanism of managers’ famine experience and corporate social responsibility, which is helpful to better understand the influence of managers’ early experience on enterprise management decision-making,and contributes to the research of managers’ famine experience and corporate social responsibility. |
