| At present, scholars’ research on strategic groups mainly focuses on the objective existence of strategic groups in various industries, and the correlation between strategic groups and enterprise performance, and most of the current research on the existence of strategic groups in industries has chosen more mature and stable industries. In recent years, due to the multiple influences of social and natural factors such as the Sino-US trade friction and the COVID-19,the fledgling Supply Chain Service Enterprises in China have faced many problems such as unclear strategies, unclear development directions and difficulties in learning from foreign development experiences at the early stage of development, resulting in a unmature and unstable business environment in Chinese supply chain industry. In this context, this paper introduces strategic groups to the Chinese supply chain industry.Compared with the traditional strategic groups in mature and stable industries, this paper explores the existence of strategic groups in complex and immature industries, enriches the application scenarios of strategic groups, and seeks to provide scientific suggestions for the strategic choice and healthy development of Chinese Supply Chain Service Enterprises.Previous studies on the impact of strategic groups on enterprise performance have mainly focused on the multiple differences between groups, while ignoring the differences within groups, and have not explored the impact of strategic groups on enterprise performance from the perspective of the internal structure of groups. This paper uses Strategy deviation and Positioning Direction to describe the positioning of enterprises within strategic groups, and then investigates the impact of the positioning of enterprises in strategic groups on enterprise performance;at the same time, considering the differences between the performance levels of different groups, this paper introduces the concept of strategic group identity as a moderating variable to explore the differences in the degree of impact of the positioning of enterprises in strategic groups on performance between different groups, enriching the research on strategic groups and enterprise performance. Therefore, this paper has some theoretical and practical significance in studying the existence of strategic groups and the relationship between the positioning of enterprises within strategic groups and enterprise performance, taking Chinese Supply Chain Service Enterprises as the target.Firstly, this paper reviews the theoretical foundations of strategic groups, and then reviews the relevant domestic and international literature on the definition of strategic groups, the existence and stability of strategic groups, the identification methods of strategic groups and the positioning of enterprises within strategic groups.Through the literature review, this article collates the mechanism of the role of enterprise Strategy deviation and Positioning Direction in influencing enterprise performance,as well as the moderating role of strategic group identity;at the same time,it proposes the classification criteria of strategic groups in Chinese supply chain industry and constructs a conceptual model of the relationship between the positioning of enterprises within strategic groups and enterprise performance. The article takes the data of listed companies in Chinese supply chain industry from 2017 to 2021 as the research sample and uses the strategic group classification criteria proposed in this paper to classify strategic groups for Chinese Supply Chain Service Enterprises through group analysis.Subsequently, three indicators used to measure enterprise performance, namely Rate of Return on Common Stockholders’ Equity(ROE),Earnings per share(EPS)and Return on Sales(ROS),were selected as enterprise performance variables in this paper, and hierarchical regression was used to explore the relationship between the degree of Strategy deviation and Positioning Direction and corporate performance,as well as the moderating role of strategic group identity. The results show that there are mixed strategic groups 1 represented by FEILIKS,low-cost strategic groups 2 represented by Xinning Logistics and differentiated strategic groups 3 represented by XMXYG and Eternal Asia in Chinese listed companies in the supply chain industry.Through regression analysis,it is verified that the degree of corporate Strategy deviation and Positioning Direction have significant negative effects on corporate performance,in which the strategic group identity plays a moderating role,as the identity of Group 1 and Group 2 positively moderated the relationship between Strategy deviation and enterprise performance, and negatively moderated the relationship between Positioning Direction and enterprise performance.Based on the results of the study, corresponding management recommendations are proposed for whole Chinese supply chain industry and each group based on the characteristics of the different strategic groups and the degree of influence of their Strategy deviation and Positioning Direction on enterprise performance. |
