| Since the 21st century,China’s service trade has developed rapidly, and China has become a major international service trade country. However,China’s service trade exports are dominated by low value-added traditional service trade generally. With the development of digitalization,China’s service trade is facing new opportunities and challenges.Whether it can take advantage of digitalization to expand the scale and level of service trade has become the key to improve the level of China’s service trade comprehensively.Currently, international service trade is transforming towards high-end and digital direction. Therefore, the digital transformation and upgrading of China’s service trade has become a common concern of domestic scholars.Exploring how digitalization can enhance the complexity of service trade exports has important theoretical and practical significance. From the published literature, scholars have conducted relatively rich research on the complexity of digitization and service trade exports, but few have studied the impact of digitization on the complexity of service trade exports.Based on this, the paper uses cross border panel data to empirically study the impact of digitization on the complexity of service trade exports based on literature and theoretical analysis, with a view to providing theoretical and empirical evidence for China to improve the level of digital technology and improve the quality of service trade exports. This article uses the principal component analysis method to construct a comprehensive value of digital infrastructure, and compares the development level of digitalization in various countries.Using the method constructed by Hausmann to calculate the export complexity of service trade, obtain and compare the export complexity indicators of service trade sectors in various countries. On this basis, this paper using cross border panel data to study the impact of digitization on the complexity of service trade exports. And the analysis is completed through benchmark regression, robustness testing, heterogeneity analysis, and mechanism testing. The empirical results have shown that digitization can promote the complexity of service trade exports and improve the quality level of service trade exports. The heterogeneity analysis found that digitalization has a more significant promoting effect on emerging services trade sectors and digitalization has a more significant promoting effect on the complexity of services trade exports in developing countries.Mechanism testing has verified that digitization can promote the complexity of service trade exports by improving human capital and saving trade costs.Based on the empirical regression results, corresponding policy recommendations are proposed:Strengthen the construction of digital network infrastructure to improve the level of digitization;Increase the cultivation of innovative talents in the field of digital services;Support high-level R&D and innovation, and promote the optimization of industrial structure continuously;Increase domestic support for emerging service trade sectors;Eliminate the international digital divide actively and deepen the division of labor in international service trade. |
