A Study On The Potential Of China’s Import Of Argentine Agricultural Products

Due to the accelerating globalization,the commercial trade between countries with cross-border trade as the link are gradually getting closer.As a country with a large population,China’s demand for foreign agricultural products is expanding with the development of economic growth and the improvement of people’ consumption level.As an important agricultural trade partner in Latin America,although Argentina is thousands of miles away,its natural geographical advantages and resource endowment helps the two countries strengthen agricultural trade,and China is the fifth largest trading partner of Argentina in Latin America.Besides,China has long maintained the position of Argentina’s second largest trading partner,export market.The year 2022 is the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between two countries.After establishment of the relations,the bilateral trade volume has increased by 2,333 times.In the current complex international situation,it is of great significance to seek a stable and reliable source country of agricultural products for our good development.It is necessary to sort out the current situation of Chinese imports of Argentine agricultural products and analyze the import potential.This paper combs the actual situation of agricultural trade between China and Argentina recently,and describes the import scale and specific structure of imported agricultural products.On this basis,the index RCA and TCI can be calculated.The results show that the types of agricultural products imported by China from Argentina are relatively concentrated.However,Argentina still has many internationally agricultural products that have not been traded with China,which reflects that China’s importing structure of Argentine agricultural products still has huge space for optimization.The complementarity index indicates that four types in agricultural products of the two countries have gradually enhanced complementarity,which is a reference product category when strengthening the economic and trade ties between the two countries’ agricultural products.After sorting out the current situation and calculating the indicators,based on the relevant data from 2002 to 2020 between China and 18 major agricultural trading countries,this paper builds an expanded trade gravity model and makes an empirical analysis on the potential of China’s import of Argentine agricultural products.The results reflect that it has huge trade potential.Based on the qualitative and quantitative research,it draws the conclusion that the import potential is huge.In order to promote import potential,improve the flow of highquality agricultural production factors and help deepen bilateral relations,the two countries put forward policy suggestions,including: Enhancing political mutual trust and optimizing the environment for economic and trade;Promoting "people-to-people exchanges" along with strengthening cooperation;maximizing connectivity and optimizing trade facilitation;Deepening industrial chain cooperation and upgrading trade in agricultural products.
