| The issue of unbalanced and insufficient development in China remains prominent, and the most arduous and heavy task to achieve common prosperity is still in rural areas. Many studies have shown that the transfer of rural land can help optimize the allocation of land and rural labor resources, improve agricultural output and farmers’ income. However, some people are concerned about whether the income-increasing effect during the process of rural land transfer affects various income levels. Will land transfer shrink or exacerbate income inequality within rural areas? Increasing the income of middle-and low-income groups and expanding the size of the middle-income group are crucial to narrowing income disparities, achieving common prosperity, and enhancing people’s well-being.Based on this, this paper discusses the impact of land transfer on income inequality within rural areas. This paper clarifies relevant concepts, sorts out research status, and conducts research reviews through literature research. Then, based on a macro perspective,it examines the current situation and development trend of land transfer, household income, and income inequality within rural areas. On the basis of literature analysis and current situation analysis, the relevant theory is expounded, and a theoretical analysis framework of land transfer on household income and income inequality within rural areas is constructed from a micro perspective. Finally, using research data from the 2018 China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)database, and with the help of RIF regression model, the impact of land transfer on household income and income inequality within rural areas is explored.Meanwhile,on the basis of theoretical analysis, the paper further studies the mechanism of the impact of land transfer on income inequality within rural areas. The research results show that: first, land transfer has improved the income level of rural households;second, land transfer has the effect of expanding income inequality within rural areas. After conducting robustness tests and using propensity score matching to address endogeneity issues, the conclusion still holds.Third, the effects of land transfer out and in on income inequality are different.Land transfer out promotes non-agricultural employment, with a more significant promotion effect for high-income households.Land transfer in increases the level of agricultural income for rural households, with a greater increase in income for high-income households.Based on the research conclusions, this paper proposes the following suggestions: 1.Promote the standardization and marketization of the land leasing market;2.Continuously increase the policy efforts for land transfer to promote farmers’ production and income growth;3.Pay attention to protecting the rights and interests of low-income farmers in relatively disadvantaged positions during land transfer. |
