In order to get the portrayal information of space, time and attribute of geographic phenomena, implement unified storage and management of spatiotemporal data, retrieve these data according to variant requirement, and accomplish spatial, temporal and spatiotemporal analysis, developing spatiotemporal modeling technology that can integrate spatiotemporal data is becoming a highlighted research direction in GIS. Based on wide investigation and deep analysis into the characteristic of spatiotemporal application, data models of GIS and the research achievements of existing spatiotemporal data models, this thesis makes a systematical research on spatiotemporal data model mainly including conceptual data modeling of spatiotemproal application, logic structure of spatiotemporal data model, spatiotemporal dynamic modeling and application of spatiotemporal data model in transportation planning. The main researches are the following:On the basis of .in-depth understanding of space-time concepts and change types, analyzing existing temporal conceptual models, a event-based temporal model and a process-based temporal model have been developed. Combining the two temporal models with field-based spatial model and object-based spatial model directly leads to four spatiotemporal conceptual models, which are field-event spatiotemporal conceptual model, field-process spatiotemporal conceptual model, object-event spatiotemporal conceptual model, and object-process spatiotemporal conceptual model. With regard to designing application system, the thesis studies the conceptual modeling method of spatiotemporal applications. Basing on analysis existing modeling methods and requirements which conceptual modeling of spatiotemporal application should meet, the thesis extends object model by introducing a small set of clear and simple notation, and presents a spatiotemporal extended object model. Compared with the traditional model, the spatiotemporal extended object model is able to speed up the data modeling process and to make model easier to comprehend and maintain. The thesis analyzes existing temporal treatment of aspatial attributes data and spatiotemporal data model, and discusses problems in designing spatiotemporal data model (STDM). Basing on key concepts and techniques in object-oriented modeling, the thesis discusses design of object-oriented spatiotemporal data model, and entirely defines and describes spatiotemporal object types that are of concern in a STDM.Organization of temporal attribute data and temporal treatment of spatial object are described. Spatiotemporal object operators and spatiotemporal index are logically designed.Temporal GIS should support process-based spatiotemporal dynamic modeling. This thesis develops a process-based spatiotemporal data modeling method by discussing and analyzing backbone theory and characteristic of spatial process simulation and methods of integrating GIS and process-based STDM. After introducing the Fundamental principle of the Cellular Automata (CA) and the model of continuous-valued Cellular Automata, the thesis gives an approach of simulation of seismic wave using continuous-valued CA, and describes implementation of simulation of seismic ground motion using OpenGL.Transportation is an important application field of GIS. Basing on background of urban transportation planning, the thesis presents a STDM of urban transportation and gives a special emphasis to spatiotemporal representation of point feature, line feature and area feature of transportation planning basic information, treatment of disaggregate travel data, and management of planning project.Urban transportation planning GIS is implemented using the Maplnfo as the software platform. With UTPGIS, transportation-relevant temporal data, which include road network, traffic zones and intersections temporal data, can be updated, managed and displayed and dynamic display of trip path and buffer analysis are also implemented.Spatiotemporal object model can serve as a powerful tool for conceptual data...
