Geographic modeling is an effective way to understand geographic world,simulate geographic process and reveal geographic laws,and it is also an important method for modern geographic research.With the development of geography,modelers from different research fields have built a large number of geographic analysis models.However,the complexity of geographic system makes it difficult for a single model to meet the needs of solving complex geographic problems.Therefore,the interdisciplinary and cross-field cooperative geographic modeling based on the existing model resources has gradually become a hot topic in the research of geography.Geographic conceptual modeling is a process of formalizing the cognition of modeling system,and it is also an important means to express the cognition of modeling system.The common cognition of modeling system is the basic premise of cooperative geographic modeling.However,due to the differences in the research background of modelers,it is difficult for them to communicate their modeling ideas in the process of cross-domain collaborative modeling.In addition,the existing conceptual modeling methods mostly employ graph-based methods to express their modeling ideas.Although they are effective to express the structure of modeling system and the relationship among modeling elemenets,they ignore the evolving nature of the modeling system and the expression of the spatial and temporal distribution patterns of the modeling elements.With the trend that cross-domain modelers are more and more needed to cooperate with each other to conduct geographic modeling,coordinating the expression and communication of modeling ideas among cross-domain modelers has become an urgent problem to be solved.In this paper,the expression of the cognition of modeling system is taken as starting point,and the conceptual modeling scenario is constructed as the abstract expression medium of the modeling system based on the relevant theoretical results of geographic scenario research.Considering that modelers' cognition of modeling system is different,the construction method of conceptual modeling scenario based on conceptual components is proposed.The domain characteristics of modeling cognition are embodied through the design of conceptual components,the spatio-temporal pattern of modeling system is expressed through the combination and nesting of conceptual components,and the interaction relationships and dynamic evolution process of modeling elements are embodied through the dynamic interaction among conceptual components.The constructed dynamic visual scenario is the product of the expression of modeling cognition,which reflects the common understanding of the modelers for the modeling system.The main research contents of this paper are summarized as follows:(1)The deconstruction of the conceptual modeling scenario.Because the layerbased method is employed to express the geographic information in traditional cartography and GIS,it is difficult to express the spatial and temporal distribution patterns,the interaction relationships and the evolving process of modeling elements in geographic system.This article proposes a scenario-based method to express the geographic system.By analyzing the connotation of the conceptual modeling scenario,the definition,characteristics,classification and elements of the conceptual modeling scenario are clarified.On this basis,the conceptual model of the conceptual modeling scenario is established,and the mapping between the geographic system and the conceptual modeling scenario is realized by designing the content expression framework of the conceptual modeling scenario.The spatio-temporal pattern,interaction mechanism and dynamic evolution process of modeling elements were expressed by designing the description model of the scenario.Finally,the basic idea of constructing conceptual modeling scenario based on conceptual components is proposed by using object-oriented modeling and agent-based modeling for reference.(2)Design and implementation of conceptual components.Conceptual component is the abstract expression of the elements of conceptual modeling scenario.In this paper,the design method of conceptual component is proposed by extracting the visual and behavioral characterizes of geographical entities.By classifying the conceptual components,their expression requirements are clarified.With the help of Unity engine,the conceptual component is implemented,and corresponding case is designed to demonstrate the design process of conceptual component.(3)Construction of conceptual modeling scenario based on rules.Conceptual components are constrained by the rules during the process of constructing a conceptual modeling scenario.In this paper,the scenario construction rules(including the rules related to scenario construction,i.e.,scenario rules,and the rules related to the cognition of geographical rules,i.e.,geographic rules)are summarized and implemented,so as to realize the expression of the spatial and temporal pattern constraints,semantic constraints and so on.To improve the effiency of the scenario construction,the conceptual resource library(including conceptual component library,rule library and scenario template library)is designed.Based on these conceptual resource libraries,the general process of constructing a conceptual modeling scenario is proposed.(4)Process-and action-oriented dynamic expression of the conceptual modeling scenario.The evolution process of geographic elements and the interaction relationships among these elements are shown as specific geographical phenomena.This paper summarizes the dynamic characteristics of relevant geographical phenomena and describes them in a scripted way.Then the common dynamic visualization methods are summarized to realize the dynamic visualization of geographical phenomena.A dynamic interaction model was proposed to express the interaction relationships among conceptual components and thus the dynamic evolution process of the geographic system can be achieved.Based on the above research results,this paper designs and implements the relevant prototype system and experimental cases to verify the feasibility and practicability of the proposed scenario-based conceptual modeling method.Results show that,the conceptual modeling scenario can effectively provide the formalized and visual expression of modeling cognition,and express the spatial and temporal pattern and the interaction relationships among the geographic elements,which makes the communication of modeling ideas among modelers more convenient,improves the efficiency of the collaborative geographic conceptual modeling,and provides an important safeguard for the rapid development of subsequent geographic modeling process.
