| Most current fashion CAD systems belong to 2D systems. These systems design 2D garment pieces that are based on a prototype formula of 2D fashion cutting. The 2D pieces are then sewn into garments to show the whole effect of the garments. Studies currently focus on the implementation of garment draping in a computer environment. The main shortcoming of a 2D fashion CAD system is the mapping of 2D pieces and 3D garments. That is to say, when designing the 2D piece, the designer must imagine the corresponding 3D garment shape. This is extremely difficult unless the designer has had a great deal of experience in designing garments. Three-Dimensional Cutting is not a new subject or a new technology, but has a long history. In the history of fashion culture, one of the biggest differences between Asian fashion and West fashion is that solid features in Western fashion are stronger than in Asian fashion, so that the cutting techniques of Western fashion give priority to three-dimensional cutting, while the cutting techniques of Asian fashion give priority to two-dimensional cutting. In recent years, the cutting techniques of Western fashion have had a great impact on the cutting techniques of Asian fashion, so that three-dimensional cutting technique is becoming more and more popular in Asia.The main part of this paper is devoted to introducing how three-dimensional fitted garment piece is designed in a virtual environment using a three-dimensional interactive instrument in a virtual environment, and the resulting developed 2D piece is shown, also the accuracy of the development algorithm is proved.Generally, there are mainly four contributions in this paper:First, a small Virtual Reality system is integrated into the designing system wedeveloped, so the designer can design the virtual 3D garment piece in a three-dimensional way, just like what they do in reality world. 3D interactive technique is the base of VR .. visualization of science computing and animation technology. Traditional CAD technology is based on 2D interaction, but the objects which processed are three-dimensional, so designers have to design 2D blueprints according correspondent 3D objects, and manufacturers have to produce 3D objects according to 2D blueprints, these are a severally waste of intelligence and resource. Combining 3D interactive technique and CAD technique can conquer this 'dimension' confliction, which will make the process for designing and manufacturing more naturally. Until now there are many kinds of instruments for 3D interaction, just like 3D mouse, pen with pressure function, data-gloves head-tracker et al. The common point of these instruments lies in the several free-degree data input. The mainly creative of this issue lies in the use of VR technique for 3D garment CAD.
