A suit of fabric CAD integration system, which including the fabric design and fabric simulation in 3D virtual environment, has been studied and implored in this paper. The system not only provides a convenient tool for the design and produce of fabric but also gives consumers the good direction of fabric choosing.The key-technology in the implement process of fabric CAD integration system, such as weave editing, colour quantization, yarn simulation, fabric 3D simulation, the principle on the development of honeycomb weave appearance , cloth simulation in 3D virtual environment, and so on, is mainly studied in this paper.The practicability of the fabric CAD system is affected by the function of weave editing. Over ten arithmetic of weave editing, such as basic symmetric pattern flip, basic symmetric reverse pattern flip, symmetric diagonal pattern flip, waved twills flip and so on are introduced, and all above functions are realized in the system.The curved and compound twill, which are the two main kinds of diversified twill, have been widely used in fabric design. The paper introduces a new algorithm to create curved twill. Using the left shift matrix function, it establishes the theory model to create curved twill. If the basic weave, the number of fly and the direction of flip is input, the system will create the curved twill automatically and quickly.Color quantization is the chief problem to resolve in printing CAD and Jacquard CAD system. The paper develops a color quantization algorithm which is based on the cluster analysis with the same range. using the faster interative, it can separate the color quickly for images.Focused on some main factors, such as color, count, twist, direction of twist, hairiness, and illumination , the model of yarn is established. The users only needs to input the main parameters of the factors, the system will simulate the yarn automatically. Users can edit the color according to the PENTONE color palette, they can also create color palettes by themselves. The paper also establishes the model of space dyed yarn, Chenille and takes the simulation on them as well.Then the paper sets up the geometry model of the yarn, according to the yarn array, fabric density and the illumination model, the system realized fabric 3D simulation. Not only patterns made of the same color of weft and warp yarns but the faint stripe effect caused by the array of yarn with different direction of twist of the same colorcan also be clearly identified. The paper also researches the principle on how the appearance of honeycomb weave developed, the chief factor which affect the appearance of honeycomb weave is found out, this research lays a good foundation for the simulation of complex weave.Cloth simulation in 3D virtual environment is studied by using the mesh technique and texture mapping, mesh adjusting tools such as mesh stretching, revolving, translation and mesh apex adjusting are established. Users can input the images and adjust the mesh interactively. The exchange relationship of color space between HSV and RGB by using the coordinates is established. It is proved that the relationship can reflect the transfer of color more properly and the uniformity of the established color space is more adaptive to the feel of human to colors.Fabric design is a complete design, we should first focus on the practical purpose of fabric to design the elementary quality and outlook style, then create the design scheme. After doing this, we can decide how to design and process the fiber, yarn and fabric. At last the paper makes a prospect to the fabric CAD system as a whole.
