Nowadays monosodium glutamate (MSG) production is still being expanded with the improvement in people's standard of living and the increasing of MSG consumption. However, the water and air pollution from the MSG production process is more and more being concerned, which has become a big problem inhibiting the sustainable development of the MSG industry. Thus, contraposing to the increasing environmental pollution, the research on pollution-ecological processes of wastewater and waste gases from the MSG production was carried out, and fluxes of ammonia released from the MSG industry and influencing factors related to ammonia release from the MSG production were discussed. In order to treat the MSG wastewater with high CODcr (chemical oxygen demand based on K2Cr2O7), organic pollutants and ammonium-N, as well as low pH, new compound flocculants with high treatment effectiveness, low-cost and high ecological safety for treating MSG wastewater were developed using the natural materials. In the meantime, flocculation mechanisms of these new compound flocculants were discussed. This work can provide an important scientific basis on synthesizing new flocculants significantly.Result 1All the working procedures of the whole MSG process, including the synthesis of MSG and the treatment and discharge of wastewater, could release gaseous ammonia, but there was a big difference in the fluxes of ammonia released between these working procedures. The flux of ammonia released from the fermentation workshop was at the highest, up to 880 mg/ 1-1Wmin-1 at the average value. The sugar-refining workshop had the lowest ammonia flux, only 0.07mg/ l-1air/min-1. The release of gaseous ammonia from each working...
