Qarhan salt lake, the main producer of potash fertilizer in China, is located at the southeast part of CaiDam basin in Qinghai province. This lake, covering 5856 km2 ,is one of the biggest modern salt depo- sits in the world, mainly contaning K and Mg. The resource of solid and liquid KC1 is about 0.497 billion tons-0.254 billion tons of solid KC1 and 0.243 billion tons of liquid KC1, which makes up 97 percent of the proven K resources in China. The layer of solid KC1 is so thin in depth,so small in size, and so low in grade that it is too difficult to exploite it. Besides that, only 1/3 of the liquid KC1 can be expel- ted due to the mining method of well and canal drainage which is being used now. Therefore, it is one of the key problems to exploite the liquid KC1 as possible as we can and to turn the solid KC1 into explo- itable liquid deposit in Qarhan salt lake. So the idea of dissolving and driving exploitation has been suggested. This paper will dead with three problems as follow:â… . On the basis of analysing hydrogeological conditions, the author has gained several results by combined studying of groundwater envi- ronmental isotopics (D,18O,T,14C ) , the isotopics (D,18O ) of inclusions in primary salt (NaCl),hydrogeochemistry,hydrodynamics,and temperature field of groundwater etc. (Germ river drainge area is raked as an example here.):1. There are local and regional groundwater systems in the drainage area of Germ river.2. Three kinds of groundwater, which were formed under different climate conditions, are found in this area.3. The water of Qarhan salt lake was mainly from meteoric water, when the forming process of salt layers took place at three different climate stages.4. Most of the intercrystal brine in the upper salt layer (S3 ) is more than 30 thousand years old.5. (Qarhan salt lake is considered as the result of erossion. lcach- ing,dissolving,transporting,and depositing of the rocks in the mountains around it by surface water and ground water in a long his- tory.â…¡. According to previous explorating data and the surveyed flow fields of groundwater made in eight times, the mathematical model of nonsteady flow is set up and several hydrogeological parameters are obtained in the first exploiting area in Qarhan salt lake by numerical simulation.â…¢. The author has proposed the connecting model of groundwater) and equilibrium chemistry for multicomponent brine systems by using the model-forming ideas for multicomponent ground fresh water system and the Pitzer theory. Meanwhile, we has done theoritical study about the dissolving and driving model in Qarhan salt lake and the software development in order to study exploiting and filling mode by parallel canals, the mode of canal-filling and well-exploiting, and the trans- feting law between solid and liquid phases in the dissolving and driv- ing process. All of these are of good comparability to the lab exper- iments.
